Hi guys,

I originally bought the iWork '09 suite on a disc, and have all three apps fully updated on my 2009 iMac and 2011 MacBook Pro. I've had no problem updating via software update and more recently the Mac App Store (at least I think I have). However, now that the newest version of the iWork apps are out, I'm not being allerted to update them. Even if I check the Mac App Store directly, nothing is showing up under 'update'. I am concerned that I will have to purchase these apps again despite these new (gorgeous) updates being free. Well, they are to users who purchased them from the App Store at least.

TL;DR: I have iWorks '09 but on a disc, not from Mac App Store. Can I still update to the newly released (as of today) versions for free?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Well, according to the Apple Press Release, yes. But Tech Support is not aware of this, apparently. They tried to tell me that I had to repurchase the iWorks apps, but I kept on reading to them their own Press release which clearly states that it's a free upgrade for existing users who have upgraded to Mavericks. That got them puzzled, so they are researching it and are supposed to get back to me tomorrow.

Take a look at this thread where I have spelled out the details.

Seriously, dont bother. They have absolutely ruined Pages to the point it is practically unusable. Stick with '09, it's a much better application.

Here are just a few points I made in a forum post earlier:

So many basic features now missing or broken,

A big selling point in the keynote was the compatibility of files across devices, but at what cost? It seems that to achieve feature parity across mac/ios/icloud they’ve just hobbled the mac app rather than improving the others.

As for the new user interface. I really don't like the fact the inspector is now fixed on the right of the page. What about those people who prefer it on the left? or who wish to have the formatting options close to what they are editing? Now were forced to move the mouse right across the screen all the time. On a 27” display thats a massive pain in the arse

Key things I've spotted just in the last hour:

- You can't even set facing pages any more, nor view two-page spreads.
- No custom toolbar any more

- No styles list only a drop down, massively slowing down editing
- No function key assignments for styles
- Select all instances of a Style is gone
- no way to import styles from another document

- No drag/drop page orderings
- No duplicate/delete pages
- Adjustment guides/grid gone

- No shading in table cells
- no objects or images in table cells

And I should all all these features were in the previous version. They are all missing from the 'upgrade'

Honestly, it's like they gave a student a project to make a word processor and this is what they came up with!

Don't know if this will help. After installing the updates for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, still had the old icons on my Mac dock. But the app store said the new versions (which were free) were installed. Ummm. Searched the internet for answers. NADA...then I happened to look in my Applications Folder. Yep...new versions were just sitting all nice and pretty in there.

It's a good thing that the old versions of the apps were left behind, as the new versions are missing a lot of the features that were available in the previous versions. The new versions are OK for light use, but any advanced user will probably find them lacking. There are a bunch of threads on the Apple Forum highlighting the missing features...
