Hi,
If you go to the Apple ID site (use the Manage option and Login) is your Email listed as Verified ?
I was able to change the Email Address I have Apple Discussion send the Notification emails to which you can no longer do.
This means I have a verified Email showing and a box that wants me to link the two.
However when I do this it does not keep the new iCloud issued @me.com address.
The original still works as an email but is from a dial up account which I would rather drop.
Basically you can have an Apple ID that is not verified and it will work for many things.
Now and then you may get reminders to correct this usually at iTunes Updates or changes to using email notifications from various Apple portals.
Of course the issue comes when the email address that is listed is not longer accessible.
If you set up a recovery/alternate email address you should be able to send the confirmation email there.
It will be worth checking Spam folders as the Apple email will be from a non reply address.
