Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner Drivers

I receive this message when I try to activate my Epson Scanner under OS X 10.9:

"You can't use this version of the application "EPSON Scan.app" with this version of OS X.

You have "EPSON Scan.app" 3.2.4"

When I go to the Epson site to download the proper drivers, it says I can only download the update from the Apple Store using Software Update. When I run Software Update it doesn't show any updates for the Epson scanner.

How do I get the proper update?

Thanks,

George

I am experiencing the same problem. I have the same Epson scanner as you. It is frustrating. But, the only thing I could do was to use the IMAGE CAPTURE software app to get a scan. It's not as good as the EPSON app, but for now, that is all I can figure out. I've contacted Epson, and hopefully, they can update or work it so that we can use the EPSON app and not IMAGE CAPTURE. IMAGE CAPTURE is very limiting.

I read on the Epson website that you need the ICA Driver for Image Capture.

I wonder if you need to download the driver(s) from the Epson website (ICA Scanner Driver V5.3.0 for Image Capture). Can't imagine it's missing...see below:

Not sure if this will help...but it's frustrating not having any scanning ability.

Thanks very much. I downloaded the driver from the above link. Ran the installer. It did its thing, but I am not sure what it did. I then ran ImageCapture again. Same results, "Failed to open a session on the device".

Earlier I also opened System Preferences and did a printer reset. I then reinstalled my old Dell printer, an Epson 3880 and the V500 scanner. No luck!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help with this. I am just stumped for now.

Sometimes, my cat goes behind my computer and scanner and the connector cables loosen up...or I move my furniture around.

Try actually unplugging and plugging back the connector cables to the computer and then to your Epson scanner.

Sometimes it's a simple fix...good luck.

I emailed Epson and hopefully, I'll hear back from them tomorrow.

They did ask if I had just loaded in the OS X Maverick so therein may lie the problem.

Wow! That worked! First it gave the same message as before even when the scanner was turned off - the scanner was still listed in Image Capture. Then I rebooted. Now opened Image Capture and followed instructions above, turning the scanner on and letting it do its thing.

Now one plus from this is that ImageCapture does not have a problem co-existing with Epson Stylus Pro 3880 print utility. Previously, if I installed the Epson Scan, the Stylus Pro 3880's Print Utility would not work and throw an error screen.

Thanks Macaroni2 and Automac2 for all your help. I was stranded without the scanner.

Am I the only one that's had the driver update? Have people tried what was recommended on the Apple Website - run Software Update without scanner connected - then running it with scanner connected/on? This worked for me but I did it by accident. It was only after I received the update that I got the link to Apple which said to do it this way. Or was that just a fluke? 🙂
