Mavericks Finder - how default to "double click opens new window"?

I am old and set in my ways. I like having the Finder open a new window when I double click a folder. Since 1984 I've arranged Finder windows in positions and sizes that suit me and I have never seen any reason to change.

In Mavericks however there does not seem to be a way to default to, "double click opens new Finder window". My choices under Finder preferences are, open in the same window; or open in a tab. I don't care for either.

Does anyone know of a way to restore the traditional Finder behavior in Mavericks? Thanks in advance.

Very good work Helgason and a very useful plugin for many. Hopefully no conflicts will arise. I must however agree with andyBall that it would be far better to give a brief description and link to the page

http://siggi.hk/index.php?action=TheLostFinderNewWindow

than link directly to the download. That is how people (such as etrasof)t link their software. It is much safer and I would think much more accepted by the moderators on this forum.

As I said, good work and a lot of users will be very happy to have these functions back. I have installed it and so far no issues.

Thanks

Pete

It's marvellous, this plugin saves "classic" archive accessability. Now that the UI on the operating system side can be modified in this way with this plugin, what is the limit? There seems to be quite a few other things possible.

And one little question perhaps also: is there any security aspect to this plugin (and such modifications)? I am not skilled that I can read, let alone evaluate the code. It just works.

Hey!

Thanx for the awesome effort! But I can't seem to get it to work. 😟

Right now in Mavericks, I can open a New Window by Control>Click>Pulldown "Open in New Window" ... or I can Command>Double Click... I thought this SIMBL would change it so you just Double-Clicked (No Command or Control) so it was like the old Preference in Snow Leopard(?) Am I doing something wrong?

Thanx!!!

Hey Peter:

I rebooted a few times already.

Maybe I'm getting this wrong - Is this little SIMBL supposed to change the OS X 9 Default so someone can "Open (ALL) Folders In New Windows" by just double-Clicking on them? (Rather than Control>Click>Pulldown "Open in New Window" ... or Command>Double Click?)

My SIMBL seems ok. I'm using ColorfulSidebar1.1.2 and it works great! I'm likely doing something wrong. I can be pretty dense sometimes.

Wow!!! There are some really GREAT suggestions in this Thread!!!

Just a few from the last couple of pages:

“Command-Shift-A and Command-Shift-H for the Applications and Home folders respectively still open in the same folder…"

That would be great!!!

…and “double-clicking while holding option key opens the folder in a new window and closes the one before at the same time.”

If I can get this TheLostFinderNewWindowSIMBL to work, I'm 1/3 of the way there!!!

Thanx guys!!!

And CMD N for new folder.

Also install instructions is missing the step to enable SIMBL (checkbox).
