Mavericks Finder - how default to "double click opens new window"?

I am old and set in my ways. I like having the Finder open a new window when I double click a folder. Since 1984 I've arranged Finder windows in positions and sizes that suit me and I have never seen any reason to change.

In Mavericks however there does not seem to be a way to default to, "double click opens new Finder window". My choices under Finder preferences are, open in the same window; or open in a tab. I don't care for either.

Does anyone know of a way to restore the traditional Finder behavior in Mavericks? Thanks in advance.

I have uploaded a newer version of TheLostFinderNewWindow plugin. It's available at the same location as before. (Just click on the same link you see in the email you received before)

Not only does it fix opening folders by double clicking or command+O, you can now also drag items into folders and they will open a new window as they did in previous versions of OS X. Opening folders using the Go menu has also been fixed up. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you'll know what I'm talking about if you live with the older version of the plugin for a little longer)

Anyone who got the download link previously can redistribute the DMG package anywhere on the web, as long as you include a link to my website. You can find a link to my website inside the DMG package. (You cannot redistribute the plugin alone, redistribution must be the entire DMG package)

I will no longer update on this thread. Any updates to the plugin will be on my website. You can find a link to my website in the DMG package.

And wow! Apple just deleted another one of my posts. So I don't expect this to be here much longer. Obviously they don't want us to open folders in new windows anymore.

It might be better received if you link to a page describing a possible work-round for this, rather than directly to the software ?.

(adding the information in 'How To Install' to that page could also be helpful.)

Some will be wary in any case, since SIMBL is often cited in crashes & instability problems here.

Hey, may I make a "humble" request?

Would it be possible to include the behavior that double-clicking while holding option key opens the folder in a new window and closes the one before at the same time?

That would be really cool, really original and even more OS "classic" like than what Mountain Lion had.

Because there's no point for pressing option key leading to reverting back to "open in same window".

Thank you in advance once again!

Just installed the Plugin here and it seems to be working great!

That is "half" the solution to the main problem. I agree... there are MANY times that I use the OPTION key to dismiss the "current open folder window only" when double-clicking to open a new folder.

As far back as I can remember, I have never used the COMMAND KEY for anything when double-clicking folders. I either Double-clicked a folder to continue opening new windows leaving an open trail (which this plugin now reintroduces) OR I OPTION+Double-Clicked a folder when I wanted the "Previous Folder/Window Only" to disappear (but leaving any previous drill down windows open so I could go back and branch off if needed).
