Where is podcast functionality in GarageBand 10.0.0?

In the previous versions, one of your options for a new project was a Podcast, but the only options available are musical instruments. And even if I create an empty project, I don't have the Podcast "Channel" available to add to my project for chapter marks and artwork.

Has Podcast creation been completely removed from GarageBand?

Yes.. But they updated the Podcast app and it's so much better now! They really care about podcasters!! (sarcasm)

I was hoping that they would increase the options for podcasting in the new GB. Things like the ability to record directly from applications like Skype, Safari or iTunes. (or any app for that matter) The best way to do that right now is with Ambrosia's Wire Tap Anywhere.... But seeing that Ambrosia is going bye bye and WTA will not work on 10.7 or higher I am forced to use 10.6.8 in order to podcast they way I want.

I saw this as a huge opportunity by Apple to help boost the podcasting world even more.... Talk about a let down. I guess I will stick with my dual boot system so I can still use WTA and GB together in harmony.

Thanks for screwing the podcasters Apple!!!!

While I am fully aware of Ambrosia's WTA not working on any OS X version above 10.6.8, I was not aware that the company itself was going away. Is there information to support this online? The company makes no mention of dissolution on its website. 😟 if this is true. I'm still upset from spending $129 for WTA and having to keep one machine stuck on Snow Leopard.

As long as you keep the old GarageBand installed, you can do a lot of what WireTapAnywhere could do with the technique described here:

I also miss WTA, and wish my $129 would have gone towards more WireTap development (and keeping the company afloat) instead of allowing them to work on iPhone ringtone generation apps whose functionality - ironically for this thread - was better done in GarageBand.

WTA is one of the best programs I have ever used. Creating audio sources so I can record in to GarageBand with multiple tracks is wonderful. At the same time I can broadcast live via Mixlr. I can only do this with WTA.

All of this I can only do on 10.6.8 via a dual boot system. I guess that's fine for now. But I cannot purchase a new Mac because everything built since about mid 2011 does not support 10.6.8.

Oh well....

This is shocking!!!

I have two podcast shows running and am heavily dependent on GB! How could Apple once more betray us this way? Almost ALL the Pro Apps I've used from Apple have been dumbed down.

I am seriously appalled at this, no forewarning to those who do the Podcast shows, nothing what so ever, now, I've looked for alternatives out there and I cannot find anything that's as easy to use as Apple's.

Though I was really hoping for a decent update to the Podcasting part of BG as it's lagging and very heavy to work with. The files take up too much and it's chocking often. It also slows down to a crawl and many things need updating. I guess instead of doing anything about it, they just killed it.

I don't get it. It's become basic and useless to me. I mean, bragging about it being free with new Macs isn't exactly a catch here if it's not as good as the ones before it. No iDVD, no DVD Studio Pro just because Apple doesn't deliver any macs with Drives anymore. Stingy BS artists!

I DEMAND Podcasting back otherwise you have shown an entire community YOU nurtured for years that you have betrayed us all!

Man I hope this opens up a market for Podcasting apps that will blow Apple out of history! Seriously I feel so betrayed!

😠 Betrayal!!!!

Dan, your points are 100% valid (and I agree with your implicit point that poeple on these forums frequently overreact and take things personally), but that is not the best or most convenient solution. Podcast producers could, I'm sure, benefit from some of the upgrades in the new version of GB, and it just doesn't make sense that Apple would remove the elements that provide the capacity to produce podcasts--they can't account for more than 3 or 4% of GB's overall feature set. It's just puzzling, esp. when they have been so assidous in their upgrades to other podcast-related tools, like Apple TV and the iOS app.
