Can't link text boxes anymore

Just upgraded to the new Pages and can't find a way to link text boxes anymore like is described here:

Am I missing something, or is it really not possible anymore?

Yep. I cannot understand this either. Linking text boxes is a major time saver for me when rebranding documents. Why would Apple get rid of this?

Would realy like to know if there is a way to get this feature back.

Update: Just discovered that on a new document you can create two text boxes, group them together using unite under the arrange tab and the text will flow from one to another. But this doesn't seem to work for my existing documents.

That's a long winded way around it. Why not just keep linking text boxes? So much easier and intuative.

So, to those of you still using Pages '09 (are you out there?) and have upgraded to MacOS Sierra, does Pages '09 work? Is it stable? I have stuck with Pages '09 for a quarterly 16-page newsletter primarily because I need to use the linked text feature. Current operating system is El Capitan 10.11.4 and Pages '09 works fine. I am thinking of buying a new Mac, which will have Sierra. I still have access to an iWork '09 install CD so should be able to get Pages '09 up-and-running, assuming it's compatible.
