I have been an Adobe customer since Illustrator, Pagemaker and Photoshop had no version numbers.

Adobe is no angel but in all the decades I have used their products they never, ever left me with files I couldn't open in later versions or would become too damaged to use.

You can add that to your portfolio of Don't Knows which has grown 10000% since you burst on the scene here.

You seem to be spending 10000% of your time making things up and putting one gloss or another on the Pages debacle.

Sadly the Pages 5 "upgrade" hasn't just disrupted all the users' work, it has taken us away from helping the long term users, who have had their problems buried under the avalanche of problems created by Pages 5.

Problems that weren't problems until Apple made them problems.

Well that's ignorant. I have points to show that I help, and plenty of people have shared my sentiments on this and the other thread. And talk about making things up, your 10000% speculation as to the doom of Apple and Pages is certainly helping nobody.

But that's not to dilute the point that you're being rude and impolite, and seem to only want to promote your agenda, twist people's words and paint Apple as the evil one who tries to destroy your work. They write software, which is never perfect. They're working on improvements, despite your assurance they'll never do so. You just want to spread FUD and ignore the benefits of the upgrade, which many are applauding. You're encouraging others to be equally rude and obnoxious rather than follow etiquette.

It's embarrassing.

Plenty? Really?

You are just about alone in not seeing Pages 5 as a major step backwards. There are some giving Apple the benefit of the doubt and hoping against hope that it will undo what it has done, but that's about the extent of it.

I tracked down the majority of the additions on the Pages 5 list and I have corrected a lot of the incorrect "ommisions" in this forum, for no other reason than accuracy.

I am perfectly capable of dividing the two things of gathering the facts, and coming to conclusions from those facts. Including that Apple isn't evil but it acts in its own interest, which isn't the same as its users.

The trouble is what is good for Apple isn't good for everyone else.

What makes this whole thing even worse is the complete silence on Apple's part.

If they would just come out and tell everyone that their intentions are to either:

  • add features back in forthcoming updates
  • release a 'PRO' version
  • continue catering to a 'dumbed-down' market

I think most people would make their decision to either stay with this current version of Pages and patiently wait as new features are added back in or to leave now in search of a replacement.

Personally, I have several thousand documents that I have created over the years that when opened in Pages 5 are unusable as is and require me to do a lot of manual re-formatting.

I am so, so disappointed in this update. I've been a Pages user since it was first released and have eagerly awaited an update to Pages '09 for several years. I can hardly believe that a company would do this sort of thing and then say absolutely nothing about it ... its just disgusting.

I never said it wasn't a step backwards. In fact, one of the first things I said was "it's a step backwards in order to take two steps forward". And I'm not at all alone in this.

You like to paint me as an Apple apologist. But I'm nothing of the kind. I never said they could do no wrong, and the whole time I've only been objecting to your rude methods and encouragement to other people to act rude. Apple does plenty wrong. They admit to it. They fix it. But they don't rush to cater to panicky rude comments. THAT'S MY POINT. They do respond to valid criticism, sent politely through the proper channels. You and some others seem to think otherwise, that some kind of aggressive threatening squeeze is the only way get them to listen. I feel sorry for you, really, if that's how you see human interaction. It's sad. And your continued condescention and insults are really horrible. I'm acting much more grown up than you, and absolutely thinking for myself.

Please, stop being rude.
