Mavericks Mail App and Gmail folders

Confirming your solution, I have no more issues myself after the mail update using similar settings to yours except for that I still kept my IMAP Path Prefix (under Advanced) set to "IMAP".

I just want to collect my received mails in the inbox and be able to delete the ones I don't need.

(And I take it from there with mail.app using flags or exporting to other apps for storing and managing stuff.)

I also want to keep my inbox synchronised over my other Macs and IOs devices.

I don't care about the archive function or "All Mail" on the web interface. Deleted message can remain in "All Mail" until they get eventually purged (I think after a month).

I have an issue with Maverick's Mail (also in how it works with a Gmail account):

When I search for an old message with key words or a contact name- no results are produced. It's as if there are no messages in the archive that fit the search queary.

Though, when I do the same on my iPhone5, an appropriate result will populate the search.

Then, going back to the Mac with a confirmed subject and recipient/sender from my iPhone search result, this new foucssed search still produces NO RESULTS!!

I have a major issue with Mail 7.0.

It seems that ever since upgrading to Maverik, Mail and Gmail do not want to work together!

Firstly, it takes forever for mail to come in to my Mail inbox for my gmail accounts.

Now, all of my mail folders in the toolbar (shortcuts to gmail folders) are no longer useable and have become greyed out.

I have used Mail since my switch to Mac OS in 2011 and it has always performed brilliantly, until now!

Please can anyone help me with this issue. I have tried deleting the accounts and re-installing them but with no joy.

This is so disappointing. I have a copy of Outlook for Mac which I am seriously considering using from now on unless I can get a fix for this.

Please can anyone help ... Im a bit of a newbie still...

Hi m_a_c,

The extensive synchronization is a function of a change in how Apple Mail is interacting with Google's non-standard enhanced use of the IMPA protocol. It will settle down after a while - just leave your Mac connected to the Internet with Mail open.

If you have not applied the "Mail Update for updated to Mavericks" software update please do that - it addresses a problem some of us have seen with deleting and filing/moving messages. (Software Update under the Apple menu).

Not sure aout the greyed out shortcuts. What gmail folders were they linked to ... folder syou created or some of the standard Gmail folders?

Thanks so much for coming back to me. Apologies for late reply but have been away.

I updated Mail via app store update and from what I can recall, thats where my troubles began.

I will leave mail open for a while as you suggested with the hope that it will settle down.

Greyed out shortcuts - Sorry if I was not clear - what I meant to say was that Mail allows you to drag gmail folders from the left folder list to create in effect a shortcut to those folders (like a bookmarks bar in chrome or safari) along the top of the mail app. These are now all greyed out (making them unusable). Clicking on them before showed me mail inside of those folders.

I have restarted mail so many times but with no joy.

Restarting mail has not done anything. I have closed and restarted mail many times.

So BOTTOM LINE: All mail settings activated, "update" loaded as well. Email comes in "so so", not really actively and takes a LOAD of time and battery life (much more than it used to)

1) Inbox is still very bad behaving, messages moving sometimes pop in and out (but eventually out...)

2) SLOW sync of mailbox with server (this is very, very frustrating, I used to work on this real-time)

3) ALL MAIL ticker is on which I assume is what the "drain" is

This is bad.

ANYONE tried dealing with actually taking ALL MAIL away and had INBOX work??

I used the above articles for my setup, and everything is finally working normal an properly setup with no work arounds in mavericks!

The real trick is after you enable the all mail you need to leave your computer on and email open for 4 days or so, depending on how much email you have. What's happening is that mavericks is relabeling all your email to work with gmail labeling and it takes a long time specially if you have a lot of attachments that need to down load again into your Mail.app.

Hi Randall,

That works great if you only have one device accessing email. But if you have an iPad, iPhone, Mac and maybe a PC all accessing gmail, it's really nice to have the email be the same in ALL places. But for a single point solution, POP would work better than IMAP.

Mavericks is really messing with gmail though. 9.1 did not fix it etirely, but hopefull a future update willa ddress the remaining issues.

This is why I'm leaving Apple Mail for good. Mavericks and Gmail just don't work together anymore.

So an update to Mavericks, 10.9.1, is out. The Mail program is included in this update, but it's not clear if there are any additional changes included (since the standalone update on 7 November).

Anybody care to test?
