Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 Won't wifi sync iPhone

Since updating to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 itunes no longer recognizes either my iphone or ipad via wi-fi.

I have plugged them in and toggled the checkbox to no avail.

I have even restored my iphone. No deal.

If I plug them in, then I can sync. But even with the box checked to sync over wi-fi, as soon as I unplug the phone, it loses connecton.

I have also rebooted the phone and restarted my computer.

The sync over wi-fi opton is completely unavailable.

echelon3, that information cannot be incorrect.

I have iTunes 11.1.2 and I am still able to connect to and sync with my iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 via USB.

While connected, I still see a checkbox that says "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi".

Furthermore, my 1st generation Apple TV still appears in the iTunes device list and syncs automatically via Wi-Fi.

My problem is my iPhone 4S (iOS 7.0.3) and iPhone 5 (iOS 7.0.2) will not show up in the device list. And my Apple TV no longer shows up as a remote speaker (Airplay).

Tried all the recommended fixes... cycling iTunes, cycling Wifi on/off on the Mac and iPhones, renewing DHCP leases, restarting all devices and the router, killing AppleMobileDeviceHelper process, etc.

Everything was working fine under the previous versions of OS X and iTunes. I tried restoring iTunes 11.1.1 from Time Machine backups, but it says the app cannot be modified because it is required by OS X. Downloaded the 11.1 installer, but it refused to run because I have a newer version installed. Downloaded and reinstalled 11.1.2, but nothing improved.

First, I've successfully downgraded from Mavericks to Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro with Retina display. I hope you have good TimeMachine Backups.

The sync capability is not (necessarily) a function of the version of iTunes but it is part of the operating system. Apple has removed the local sync (WiFi or USB) capablities for Contacts and Calendar from Mavericks, Mac OS X 10.9. Contacts and Calendar, along with Notes (moved in a previous OS 'upgrade') are now ONLY synced via iCloud. FYI, the KeyChain is also apparently exported around the Internet via iCloud; good move.

As I did not want my confidential information out of my direct management, after a week of running Mavericks, I decided to go back to Mountain Lion. I hope Apple will recitfy this.

As an FYI, I did NOT start using iCloud. Before I upgraded, I did NOT know that iCloud was required. Since I never have used iCloud, I skipped that part of the Mavericks install or startup.

To down grade to Mountain Lion (10.8.5), I rebooted the Mac into Recovery Mode and restored my computer from a TimeMachine backup from just before I did the upgrade. After this, I had my computer back to the state just before the upgrade.

Next, I wanted to recover all my user files and work I had done since the upgrade. After I started the Mac, I logged into another account (my admin account). From there, I restored the latest /Users hierarchy to bring my email, and other info (calendar, contacts list, etc.) from TimeMachine. After this, I had the old operating system and my current user files.

But wait, there's more; we are not finished yet. The iPhoto program in Mavericks makes some changes that are not backward compatible. SO, I restarted the Mac (just to be safe) and logged back into my regular account. I then restored the contents of ~/Pictures from the TimeMachine from just before the Mavericks upgrade.

All seems to work quite well (Calendar, Contacts, iPhoto, iTunes syncing, Mail, etc.).

I hope this helps.

Add another to the list. I tried Steve Rhyne's suggestion of creating a new "Location" in Network preferences, however it did not work for me.

What I have noticed is if I restart my iMac, once I log in and launch iTunes, my iPhone4 and iPad3 are displayed (so is my ATV1) as connected. I can then perform a WiFi without issue. Howere, if I wake my iMac up from sleeping and go into iTUnes, only my ATV appears. I can quit and restart iTunes as much as I like and my iOS devices do not reappear. Again, only if I shut down or restart my iMac entirely will they reappear when I re-launch iTunes, that is until I put my iMac to sleep.

Hope this sheds some light to those in the know.

It syncs very slowly with my iPhone, refuses to see photos on my Mac via Home Sharing to the Apple TV, constantly freezes and bogs down my whole computer, and then, if whenever I attempt to quit iTunes, it refuses to do so, and then, upon necessary Force Quit, slogs through an interminable "Checking iTunes Library" process.

I'm have the same issue. When I upgraded my iMac to Mavericks all was well, I could wirelessly sync both my iPhone 5s and my iPad 3, but then something changed (the latest upgrade to Mavericks OS X 10.9 (13A603) perhaps?). Now neither device is recognized when I start up iTunes (11.1.2) neither device shows up (unless they are hard connected via USB).

My iPhone 5s will wireless sync if I initiat that from the phone's General settings and it works. However the iPad refuses to initial a wireless sync (but as noted it will sync over USB).

Very disappointing that Apple hasn't resolved these wireless sync issues. Regardless of the OSX versions they seem to come and go without explanation.

I've tried a number of things in this discussion, sometimes a reboot will resolve the issues (but not today) only to then not work the next time.

Okay, so after 'upgrading' to Maverick - I am not able to sync my calendars or contacts thru iTunes - which was simple, safe and secure! And from what I was just told by a senior advisor at Apple named Faith - 877.416.4271 x57183 - I will never be able to sync again thru iTunes and a basic cable connection - BUT only now thru the CLOUD. I can't understand why this change was made - but she also told be (and directed me to http://www.apple.com/privacy/) - that it was secure - but she could not find anything in WRITING from Apple - stating that the CLOUD cannot be hacked into.

If anyone has any answer to this - please help. Completely ridiculous "upgrade' by Apple. Give "Faith" a call...

Hi, jocol

I have had this discussion with Apple a few times over the past few months. And so have many other people. Apparently, Apple has no intention of restoring the sync options, such as USB, that many of us prefer and some of us require. Perhaps if enough people register complaints, Apple might reconsider their ill-advised decision. But I would not bet on it. Apple wants our data in their cloud. iCloud is a product Apple wants to sell (yes, I know iCloud is "free" but it is free only to point). And if a company can force its customers to accept and use a product, well that's got to help the bottom line. And then there is the value of the data.

The last thing I want is my data in some corporate "cloud." My calendars and contacts are private. And I certainly have no intention of having my "keychain" in some corporate cloud. I am beginning to wonder whether Apple have completely lost touch with reality and their customers.

Mountain Lion will be for Apple what Windows XP was to Microsoft, the operating system that rather a lot of users would not upgrade.

My iPhone 4s syncs with Mavericks now. The issue of not syncing started when I upgraded to Mavericks. iTunes simply didn't move forward from Step 1 of 6 in the sync process. My iPhone had this spinning icon at the top of the screen indicating sync is in progress, but it never ended. So, I just turned my iPhone off, restarted it and retry the sync process, and it is working fine now. Not sure this solution works for everybody :-)

This worked for me too.

I was very careful to make a Carbon Copy Cloner copy of the drive under Mavericks before I did the above--and I wish I'd done the same before installing Mavericks, would have made this all so much easier. I lost some signficant time invested in one iPhoto library that has to be recreated and organized, but nothing else that I can see so far.

I was so happy to see my contacts & calendars syncing again that it was utterly worth it, even worth going back to the blue-screen tint problem that Mavericks had cured (and was the only reason I wanted to go quickly to Mavericks in the first place).

After more than a week, all is still unsatisfying - still no WIFI sync on iTunes 11.1.2 - no upgrade provided by Apple. I have still my lags when returning to Album view and both my iOS devices refuse to WIFI sync. At least the USB sync works.

I recommend all people here to leave this alone, since I dont see any relieble solution yet. All the time consuming fiddling is no good. I just suggest to wait for Apples solution that comes hopefully soon.

Thank you Steve!
Your fix worked for me.

Steve Rhyne wrote:

I may have found the fix. At least it's working for me for the time being. Create a brand new network "Location" in the "Network" pane of "System Preferences". It can't be a duplicate of your current "Location" (I tried that); it must be a brand new location:

1) Quit iTunes if it's running.

2) Select "System Preferences..." from the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.

2) Click once on "Network".

3) Write down or take screenshots of your network settings. [beyond the scope of these instructions]

4) Click on the "Location:" drop-down menu and select "Edit Locations...".

5) Click the "+" button to create a new location. Name it and click "Done".

6) Configure your network settings [beyond the scope of these instructions] and click "Apply".

7) Open a web browser and visit a web site to make sure your new network settings are working.

8) Open iTunes and watch your iOS devices appear again.
