How do I update iWork 09' to the latest version of iWork released on the 22nd?

Currently, I have iWork installed from an iWork 09' retail disc that is updated to the most current version behind the one released with OS X Mavericks. However, when I check out the Mac App Store (MAS) there are no signs of updates, other than a keynote update to the most recent version. I have upgraded Keynote to the most recent version that came along with OSX Mavericks, but there are no updates visible for Pages and Numbers!

I have tried many solutions, including logging out of my iCloud account and even logging out of my Mac account and entering into a guest account and trying the update with no results. Please help!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

I found the answer from a post from way back in Nov 2008:

Keynote (and iWork in general) will not update automatically or manually

My iWorks '09 apps (purchased with disk) were installed in a folder called iWork '09. Renamed the folder to iWork, and ding ding ding, App Store generated an update the latest iWork, like instantly.

Oddly enough the iWork folder name change also forced the iLife apps ( iPhoto and iMovie) to update. These too were purchased via disk, and were in the root application folder.

***For those that purchased iWork 09 not on the app store but as a retail disk copy you can get the update for iWork even though it may show $19.99 for all the apps:

You can reupdate to iWork 9.3 by going here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563

then after it is updated close the app store if opened then open it again and sign out then sign in and then all the iwork 2013 apps should show as update rather than $19.99 cost each. This worked for me. I bought iwork '09 on disk but it showed 19.99 each after I upgraded to Mavericks so followed the above steps and it worked. I am now updating all my iWork suite I bought on disk, NOT on the Mac app store and now I have a Mac app store set!

Apple sure has a problem that needs to be fixed otherwise iWork will eventually be free for everyone...

Someone at Apple forgot all of us old retail people before the Mac App store existed!

The http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563 update worked for me, AFTER I restored the name of the iWorks '09 folder. Do NOT rename the folder if you want the update at the URL given above to work. If you have renamed the folder, launching the pkg after you run the .dmg from the update download gives a message something like "No eligible Keynote application was found in the folder applications/iWorks '09" or something like that. Renaming the folder back to its original name as installed by the retail disk solves that problem and allows the update to succeed. If you already renamed the folder, just rename it to what the error message says and you should be fine.

Well, despite the update, numbers still crashes when I try to open any xlsx file sent from a Windows user.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that an app written for Snow Leopard crashes instantly with not even any error message on Mountain Lion. Say what you will about Microsoft and Windows, I think they have a better handle on backwards compatibility. Not sure I want to invest in any more iWorks (or is it iWork?) software.

This advice helped me perfectly. Thanks!

I first did the update from iWork 9.0 to iWork 9.3 by going here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563

This installed Keynote 5.3 (inside iWork '09) on my iMac.

Then i went to the Apple AppStore on my computer, and checked for updates in my AppStore.

Keynote application was listed there for me. Also Numbers and Pages.

I was able to update without problem.

Note: i now have two version of Keynote on my iMac: Keynote 6.6 (new version 2016) and Keynote 5.3 (from iWork '09)

Hope this works for you too!

How do I update iWork 09' to the latest version of iWork released on the 22nd?
