The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.
(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

Nope. As I said, there is nothing for me to gain personally from supporting DockMod. I just think it's a great piece of software at a cheap price.

Unsanity??? Boy do they have a poor reputation here with their lack of support! Do a quick search here in the forums. I thought they had folded. Pity. I would keep ten miles away from any future crapeware they develop.

I wondered about that myself. I thought they totally closed down and faded away in the spring. They never updated their apps beyond Snow Leopard and the ßeta work conducted via their Twitter account suddenly stopped.
You can lower the transparency of the dock, making it blend with the wallpaper a little more. Just open Terminal (It is in /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste this text, then press enter:
defaults write com.apple.dock hide-mirror -bool true;killall Dock

It's awful. Absolutely awful. I mean, seriously...no option to simply change the color or alpha? Poorly done Apple.

So do I. I hadn't even noticed it before. I only look at the icons as I select one. I really don't see any issue. Just put up a really eyecatching Desktop Picture and noone will probably ever notice it. 🙂

Be careful. Back on November 9th, I commented that I liked the dock. I quickly received quite a few harsh criticisms for stating such a radical opinion. I hope cooler heads will prevail now.
Because such comments are superfluously.
This thread is not a vote wether you like the new dock or not. This is a discussion about tips and tricks to make the new Dock more useable and less ugly. Because Apple don't seem to give an option to give the Dock more contrast, even month after release and many complaints in many threads.
Apple forced themself in a corner with the new low contrast OSX and iOS Design and refuses an option to change the Design. It think the mediocre (and much lower than expected) iOS-Devices sales this holiday gives an outcast what will happen if Apple is continously ignoring such complaints.
Well if people can say they don't like it, I should be able to say I do like it. Democracy in action.
Was there an OSX option before to change contrast in the dock? I don't remember it.
And it is on topic, whereas Xmas sales figures are not. You are wrong about them anyway.

Dock preferences don't seemed to have changed in Mavericks. The colour has changed and I like it. If you don't then look for a hack to change it. They are around if you look.

I agree with dmc336k.
Jrebergen has, in my opinion, the best solution I've seen here.
Since I don't have a real problem with the new dock, I'm going to stick with it until Apple makes a change, but if I were going to make a change to it, I'd use jrebergen's triangles.
