Andy, thanks, but... how do I get to it? I was able to view the library using the Console App, but I can't seem to move/copy anything out of it using that App. I can't seem to find it using the Finder App - when I go into a Library directory with the Finder App, the Containers directory isn't there.

I hate to sound dumb but... could you give me the "how to copy/move your iBooks library directory for dummies" list? :-)

EDIT: I'm talking about accessing the Books library so I could copy/move it to my desktop as per the instructions given previously by Kevin.

Loveto, I'm talking about the library that is part of iBooks. Kevin's instructions say that I should copy that to my desktop before reimporting into iTunes. The books library in iTunes appears to still have all the old PDF files but most of the epub files were moved to the iBooks library. This is the library I need to copy to my desktop. I can't seem to do it, though.

There are at least two Library directories on your Mac. One is in the Root of your Mac boot drive and one for every user on your PC. But we are not looking in the Root, you have to go to the Users - Library. That one is normally hidden by OS X in Finder.

To go there you open the Finder in the Finder Menu you choose 'Go' > 'Go to Folder' and then you can copy paste

'~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books/' (without quotes)

and then you should find yourself in the directory where iBooks with the installation of Mavericks migrated all your books/pdf's into.

... and Julian,

there is no need to copy that directory to your desktop. If you follow my alternative steps (to Kevins) mentionned above you will only delete the books in the '~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/Books/Books' directory at the very end when all ist set and verified and working well.

If you still find all of your PDF files in your 'iTunes Media' folder that's fine and re-add them in iTunes by going to File > 'Add to Library' > select all your folders in your iTunes Media/Books directory and they should reappear.

I had a few PDF files residing there too, although iBooks migrated most of my PDF's into its own '~/Library/Containers/....' directory.

Now it seems to be working. Did nothing but close iTunes and open again. Updating all my devices just in case.

Andy, thanks for the followup. I'm in the process of following your steps. As I look at them in comparison to Kevin's, I think the main difference is that yours relies on iTunes knowing where the e-book files are even though the library has been migrated from iTunes. My situation may be a little different from both yours and Kevin's - although iBooks told me it imported the entire e-book library from iTunes, when I look at the iTunes Media directory, it is clear that most of the pdf files and some of the epub files are still there. However, many epub files are not there, and are presumably in the iBooks library instead. I'm hoping that the Consolidate procedure will be able to make sense of this, and that I get all my books back without redundancy. Will let you know in a little bit when this is done.....

I'm still undecided whether to bin ibooks or wait for a complete revamp. Definitely not going to bother to spend my time trying this or that "solution" that one comes across on the forum. Don't get me wrong guys: I totally respect everyone that is generous enough to share their experiences and knowledge. This time I'm going to sit and wait for Apple to come out and do what their supposed to do: fix this.

Ok, I followed Andy's steps, got out of iTunes after the consolidation and then restarted it. I don't see a Books tab under the Library side bar on the left side. However, the books appear to be there - I see a books tab in the sync screen for my ipad2. Not sure how to make the books tab reappear in the library. Any help would be most appreciated.

I don't see any books added in the "recently added" playlist.

I also checked under preferences and library - an option to display books is not even there.... help!

Addendum to above: iTunes is syncing books to my iPad, but I'm not sure where from. I saw the same PDFs in the iTunes Media/Books subdirectory that were there before. I killed the iBooks process using Activity Monitor. I still can't see the books in iTunes itself. I have tried restarting iTunes and even restarting the computer - still can't see the books. I tried importing the iTunes Media/Books subdirectory back into the iTunes library and nothing happened.

At least some of the PDFs that are being synced to my iPad appear to have lost their author metadata, as is obvious from the sync window/books tab.

Thanks to Andy and everyone else for the fix - worked a treat. Even after talking to a "Genius" at an Apple Store... their solution was "to wait for a fix". At least now I can manage the library the way I want it, and make sure I have a good back up ready for the update from Apple...

An another failing try : created a new fresh User on my iMac and did the trick ==> nope at all !

Could it be so simple that you did not go inte Preference->General and checked the "Books" checkbox?
