Just installed Yosemite on my secondary iMac to see if iBooks can indeed keep metadata added in iTunes or if editing is possible...
Unfortunately, although a BIT better than Mavericks most of the metadata i added in iTunes has been trashed... Editing does not seem to
be possible in a practical manner... There is a way to add an author or category to a drop down list BUT it seems like a month of work to
reorganize my PDF collection (20 Gigs worth) and that is only with partial metadata!
I wonder if and when someone will be able to figure out a way to keep the books in iTunes like our Mavericks workaround of deleting iBooks completely...
Until then I guess I have to keep my Macbook Pro in Mavericks...
I am such an Apple fan... and I can not understand why this is issue is being ignored and swept under the rug as it is uncharacteristic of apple...
This problem along with Apple TV's inconsistent method sorting of iTunes U files NOT ignoring Articles (A, An, The) in the titles.
While they are ignored in the original iTunes library and also ignored on the Apple TV for Movies, TV Shows, and Music... It defies logic...
I think it's acceptable in the beginning but to allow these "problems/issues" to continue without addressing them is disappointing...
Yes, it is true that for the general masses these two issues may not matter... But for someone who investing hundreds of hours adding and organizing content
to the apple ecosystem, it is disheartening when later releases take a number of steps backwards...
I was HORRIFIED when all my books were stripped of their metadata last year... I learned my lesson have taken precautions with this update... However, I was sure they would have taken steps to warn customers this year or even better: added editing functionality and transfer iTunes data completely... I am disappointed as your post gave me much hope, but I guess there aren't enough of us to rock the boat hard enough and make them care... : ( Any friends of John Gruber or Walt Mossberg reading this post? We could certainly use their help in getting this issue addressed!!!
