There seems to be a major problem that users of wacom tablets are encountering now with Mavericks, even after installing the latest driver for the tablet, whenever the processors are working over 20% the tablet lags or becomes so slow and this did not happen before updating to OS X 10.9...

It's really disturbing as for all the users who are creatives and work with apps like Photoshop, or 3D software are having problems working normally.

Intuos 5/Maverick question:

My bamboo tablet is doing fine now that I installed the driver from the Wacom website. I have been thinking of getting an Intuos 5 and just use my little Bamboo for my laptop, but I am hesitating now since I'm afraid it won't work when I try to hook up to my desktop. Does anyone have the Intuos 5, and does it work with the new Maverick system?

Thanks,

Teresa

I installed the latest driver, the tablets "seem" to work fine but depending on what you use it with, as soon as you start doing something that needs some heavy proccesing like rendering then the pointer will lag and be so slow but if you switch to the touch pad the cursor moves fine... so the drivers aren't truly working 100%.

Wacom tablet woudlnt show up after updating drivers.

My Solution:

Open Wacom Tablet Utility.app and make a backup of current settings (even though the tablet doesnt show in system prefs, i figured this would work and did)

Then in Wacom Tablet Utility, I removed Tablet Software, Then downloaded and installed the latest driver, (WacomTablet_6.3.7-3) installed it, then (not sure if needed or not) ran disk utliity - Repair Permisions.) - NOTE, i used this driver even though I am worrrking with a Wacom Intuos 4 Wireless.. it seems that they simply havent updated the pages on their "lagacy" section yet with the current driver

Then checked to see that the wacom tablet was being read again, though at default settings.

I then restored the pref settings I had made earlier in Wacom Tablet Utility and thaty seems to have corrected the issue.

I have the same issue where my tablet works fine until I render in Cinema 4D, which is very demanding on the CPU. The pointer then lags and the tablet is impossible to use. This was never a problem before Mavericks.

I'll double-check on my MacPro at work on Monday which is still running Mountain Lion.

Why we have to run these checks is beyond me. Perhaps Apple and Wacom can be invoiced for our time.

Maybe Mavericks was therefore "free"... we can not complain anymore. 😐

I have a very old small light blue Wacom (+/- 12 years old orso), and it still works fine after the update of Mavericks.

I did not test with high CPU load, just a blank Photoshop page and writing my name on it with Wacom pen. All fine.

Good luck to those with issues, hope it gets resolved.

I own an Intuos GD 0608-U.

Foolishly tried to upgrade to the new driver.

Intuos stopped working.

I tried Jason.Douk 78's solution.

Did not work for me at all (It did some nice clean-up on my permissions, though ;-)).

Went into Time Machine, retrieved a Wacom 6.15-2 Installer from March 2010 from the Download Folder.

MIgrated the older installer fm Time Machine onto my present desktop.

Deleted the newer driver version from my present disk with the Wacom Utilities app. Re-installed the 2010 version.

Saving the the prefs and restoring them did not work either . . . Tool five minutes to re-map my tablet.

It now works perfectly with Mavericks on my MBP 2009 17" 2.8GHz 4GB RAM. No lag at all.

Hope this helps.....

Cheers.

Whew. Thank you for posting this. I installed the previous version of the driver and my tablet is back to working perfectly.

For anyone needing to find the previous drivers they are listed here:

I was basically screwed trying to go back and design with a mouse. It was like trying to design left handed and backwards for the last week. You saved my life!
