Safari Not Working After Mavericks Upgrade

The upgrade went through, but now Safari won't work. I get amessage about reopening thelast open windows, and whether I indicate to do so or not, Safari doesn't open a new window when requested, and won't respond to the command to load a site.

Requesting the afari preferences requires multiple attempts,a nd the pop-up won't respond to a close request.

Except for bookmarks, all Safari preferences and support files have been deleted including extensions.

Disk Utility has been run to repair preferences.

Restarting the Mac has no effect

Any thoughts?

I can't even get to the point! Safari is getting stuck during launch at that Glims error message dialog. The dialog asks if I want to reopen tabs from the previous session. The buttons in that window are unresponsive. [I am using the very latest version of Glims downloaded directly from the website.] So I can't even get to the Safari Preferences to disable and/or update Safari extensions. I know it is probably possible to go into the Library folder and pull the Safari extensions out manually. This will be my next troubleshooting step.

Possibly related: I also cannot get the iCloud Pref Pane or the Mail, Contacts & Calendars Pref Pane to open after the Maverics upgrade. I thought maybe disabling iCloud and reenabling it might cure some of the problems. Can't get there from here, apparently.

Anyone know a command line way to reset Safari in Mavericks?

I'm having trouble with ALL the browsers in Mavericks. Experiencing non-responsive page elements as you report in both Chrome and Firefox (stable releases).

I may download Chrome beta and Firefox Aurora just to see if they play nicer with Mavericks.

I'd hate to be working at Apple taking feedback right now. 😢

I'm not saying this will work for you, but I had the problem where clicking on links did nothing, etc. I tried in Firefox and everything worked, so it was obviously something with Safari. Some of the other posts stated to remove Glims, whatever that is. I tried their unistaller, but no luck. Since I had installed Mavericks on top of Mountain Lion, I thought maybe an old preference file might be corrupted or interfering with the new version. I sent into the HOME library (remember you have to push option on the GO menu to even see it. I went to the Preferences folder and found about 4-5 com.apple.Safari plist files and threw them out. When I restarted (it rebuilds the plists files it needs), Safari worked, the links worked, and it didn't lock up. Worth a try if the Glim-thing didn't work for you.

I had the same issue, but couldn't find any instance of Glims on my Mac, just the reference in the console.

The uninstaller on this site did the job for me:

Disclaimer:

You work at your own risk – it is not registered software.

When the system denies you to open it, try opening it with 'alt'.

The makers of Glims recommend to update it.

For now, after searching two days for a solution deinstallation was far more satisfactory 😉
I hope I didn't catch a 'rash' on my MBP...

I did it exactly as described above. I read about several "solutions" – it has to do with some remnants of Glims, as I remember to have it installed earlier. At the time of system change (not using advert-speak "upgrade") there was no Glims installed, but the deinstaller worked, restart – everything works almost as before (see below).

Another point (ha, "upgrade"!):

In my case, the German shortcuts for changing tabs were gone. Instead I had to bend my fingers to reach 3 keys at a time. If so, you have to rewrite them, this time according to your own taste, in system prefs/keyboard/shortcuts. Upgrade... pfff!
