Safari Not Working After Mavericks Upgrade

The upgrade went through, but now Safari won't work. I get amessage about reopening thelast open windows, and whether I indicate to do so or not, Safari doesn't open a new window when requested, and won't respond to the command to load a site.

Requesting the afari preferences requires multiple attempts,a nd the pop-up won't respond to a close request.

Except for bookmarks, all Safari preferences and support files have been deleted including extensions.

Disk Utility has been run to repair preferences.

Restarting the Mac has no effect

Any thoughts?

I have the same issues, followed all the threads including this one trying all the fixes, nothing worked until I found this just an hour ago (after a day of fighting with Safari after updating Maverick yesterday)

This is what I did:

Back up all data, then remove the "Genieo" spyware by following the instructions onthis page.

Some versions of the spyware may not be completely removed by those instructions. If you still have problems, do as follows.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Reveal

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.

Repeat with each of these lines:

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist

/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client

Then reboot.

From the Safari menu bar, select

Safari Preferences Extensions

Uninstall any extension you don't recognize. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Now Safari works GREAT!!

After months of trying everything that has been posted, I finally figured out my problem with Safari. Under System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Firewall Options I discovered that Safari had been set to "Block incoming connections". I changed this to "Allow incoming connections" and everything started working with Safari.

I can't believe something so easy took me so long to figure out.
