Well done ! I am about to dump Apple and revert back to Windows. When I spoke to Apple Support they said they read all comments from users. I don't think they read our posts as there has never been any feedback from them here. So perhaps if you want to be heard, send a feedback directly to Apple. I did but don't know if they took notice but no harm trying. I read the replies and messages on this discussion but bascially I am sick and tired. I reply to you becasue here is someone who did something to show Apple arrogance indeed has its price! I am sure Apple's market share is further reducing due to this terrible mistake as I am not the only one who is going to dump Apple.

Apple reads post that are sent through the Feedback link, though they are explicit that they will probably not respond. They don't read the forums except in special circumstances and they don't respond on the forums.

I have been a loyal Apple costumer since the late 80's, but maybe no more. Forcing us to use the cloud to sync my personal data and data in my Contacts that are my friends and colleagues data is wrong and may be illegal in some countries and business agreements. Now I know why NSA is building the large cloud center near Provo, Utah, we and Apple are giving them an easy data gift. Unfortunately I just purchased a new iPhone, and upgraded all my iOS and Mac OS's. Now I am forced to go back to the 1990's and manually sync five devices calendars, contacts, notes, etc.

Also, I work off the electrical and cellular grid for about six months in a RV, how could I sync my devices with no reliable cell connectivity, what about all the Apple users around the world without good cloud access. Are we giving foreign governments a tool and source to track their citizens. I am very disappointed in Apple, first Google does this and now Apple makes a stupid mistake, probably for future marketing data. Please give me a choice to local sync.

I too have gone to Google calendar. Deleted Mavericks via Time Capsule restore of the old system, so I have the info tab back for contacts and other stuff, for the time being.

No longer in the market to by a new Apple to replace my 2008 MAC PRO. Will go PC instead. Because I will no longer update the Apple OS on the MAC. Sticking with Lion. Unless of course Apple reverses the decision to remove the info tab.

HI, All,

I am so ticked at Apple, I can hardly speak. Forcing the use of iCloud is the action of a bully. If I had known about the end of syncing with a cable, I would never have upgraded. Apple NEVER told us about that. The only reason I have an iPhone is because I could sync to my Mac with a cable. Now that is gone and there is no reason to continue with it. This is indicative of the other functionalities that Apple has taken away---iCloud cannot store PDFs or any other file not created in an iWorks program among many others. Right, a whole lot of people use Pages. So, now I cannot back up my contacts and calendar. It is MY choice regarding how I want to protect my privacy and that of others in my contacts file. But, Apple thinks---no insists---that it knows best. And beyond that, Apple's smugness in saying essentially that it's for my own good is as condescending and offensive as any comment that Google or Facebook would make.

There are many comments like these on Apple's actions over time and, frankly, they have had no effect. And, that is what is the most bothersome about these actions. Yeah, I know they have zillions of dollars of cash and their stock price is high. But, not for long. Sooner or later you pay for that arrogance. So, Apple, read these posts. We'll see you on the way down.

Admonishing Apple to read posts that they don't read and so won't see your comment seems just a tad pointless, don't you think? Use the Feedback page:

Meg,

I'm going to the Feedback page after this post. But, I don't see this as pointless.

Be that as it may, I should say that I just finished a 45 minute conversation with AppleCare during which a supervisor tried to help. He gave me some good information. I implored him to tell Apple to restore the info tab. And, if enough of us make the point (here and on the Feedback page), that might happen. However, until/if that is accomplished, there is important info re: how the "backup to computer" option works. As with many of you, I will not put contacts & calendar on iCloud. However, when you back up your phone, iTunes creates a complete copy that is resident only in iTunes. It does not communicate with contacts or calendar or any external program. So, you cannot see the backed up version on your computer when you open either of those programs. But, those data are there. So, if you purchase another phone or you need to restore your phone, it will restore the latest backup, contacts and calendar included.

Of course, this begs the question re: why the functionality was taken away in the first place. The Apple rep made it clear that the Feedback option is the best one. So, I would encourage all who posted comments here to do it again on the Feedback page. In the end, that is really a sad comment on Apple's approach to listening to its customers. That is, the forum is somehow less convincing than feedback. But, that is the approach, so I'll do it and ask others to join. Hope this helps.

I finialy got local Sync back on my MacBook Pro and IOS 7 devices for calenders and Contacts, but it's a workaround. I want SYNC without using iCloud or Mavericks Server! My MBP has an SSD with OS X 10.9, Mavericks, I created an external drive which I downloaded a pre Mavericks OS. I used a restore from my Time Machine backup, Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 with an older version of ITunes (11.0.2). I used this USB drive as my startup drive. I tried to local sync my IOS 7.0.4 iPad and got a message to load iTunes 11.1.3. I went back on-line and downloaded iTunes 11.1.3. I re-started th MBP in Mountain Lion and the iTunes.

The iTunes INFO tab was back with local SYNC for Apple Calender and Contacts could be selected. I Synced an iPad 2 and a iPhone 5s using this drive with Mountain Lion/iTunes. I ran an off-line test with several dummy Calender events and dummy contacts and they transferred to all three devices. SYNC with no ICloud! Now I'll have to reboot in the old OS to SYNC, which is a pain, But the reboot in Mavaricks is very fast on the SSD drive, at 36 Sec.

Please Apple give us the option to select Local Sync vs. ICloud Sync in iTunes, for many users, like me, this is mandatory as they have no access or very limited access to the CLOUD. I'm off the GRID from 3 to 6 months a year.

bugplayer, I am exactly in the same position as you. I changed from pc to Mac and bought the iphone because of possibility of cable syncing. I ugraded (or should I say 'downgraded' ) to Maverick with no clue that they were going to take away the info tab. I am extremely upset because only all the 'marvelous' features that Maverick promised was higlighted when I was asked to 'upgrade'. But there was never a mention of what they were going to remove. I think this is cheeky. Its like, always read the small print, but worse, you can't even read the small print because its not there. I can't even restore Mountain Lion beacause I am travelling for 3 months and my Time Capsule is at home. I am in the real ........!!!!! I am stuck in this since mid October. I spent a total of 8 hours talking to Apple support, switching from iPhone support to Mac support and back because one does not know a thing about the other device, and they even got my iPhone in a mess in the end. Something's got to change when I get home. By the way, I told all my friends who were thinking of changing from pc to Mac to rethink.

I'm also really annoyed with Apple since the upgrade were made. I feel like I'm being forced into buying a new phone since so many iphone4 features are not working properly. I also don't want to use iCloud for privacy issues--who know who could be accessing info that way. Give me back my info button Apple!

Hello Meg St._Clair,

How does one make an informed decision about whether to purchase or upgrade a product without adequate information? When Mavericks was released, Apple spoke of new features but offered no information about existing OS X features (specifically, USB sync capability, sync services) that would be lost if the update were to be installed.

Although iCloud is rather convenient, its use should be a choice. For me, like many others who have posted here, personal and legal issues prevent me from using iCloud.

If I am mistaken about Apple failing to inform its customers that Mavericks would eliminate certain existing OS X functionality, my apologies but I would like to know where that information was made available.

Happy Holidays.

Hello Meg St._Clair,

"Admonishing Apple to read posts that they don't read and so won't see your comment seems just a tad pointless, don't you think?"

I agree with your recommendation that Apple customers register complaints with Apple feedback. That being said, I do not agree with your argument that Apple is not monitoring posts to the the discussion boards. A few minutes ago, I recevied email advising of a new post to the discussion.

The content of the post was "I think the best route is a Class Action process." Clicking on the link to the discusion that Apple sent to me resulted in the following message.

" It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake."

Clearly, the discussions are monitored and some posts are deleted by Apple. Whether a human or a computer algorithm is monitoring and, on occassion, deleteing customer posts, is irrelevent. What is relevant is that Apple has enough interest to scan and delete posts as they see fit while ignoring the issues raised in those posts.

Frankly, I am curious whether this post will be deleted. If this post is deleted, I would appreciated hearing from anyone who received an email update on the discussion only to find this post unavailable.

All the best.
