missing info tab in itunes 11.1.2 when iphone syncs

I'm just as frustrated as NeilKay and thousands of other cosomers, about Apple taking away local syncing. My entire office and business is based on local syncing, especially Contacts and Calendar. What can be done about i? I am seriously thinking about leaving alla Apple products alltogether. There are many other good products on the market. Unfortunately I just invested quite a lot of money in new Apple hardware. I wonder if thre is anything that could be done to force Apple to bring local sync back? Maybe if we all get together and start a "p" (can not write the word, because the system scanns words in posts which are not suitable to Apple and erases the post, as it happened several times to me already) and work together on this issue.

I would never put all the addresses of my clients, some of them prominent people from show business and politics on iCloud!

Don't we have a right to be able to continue to work with our confidential information as before. I think we are being created on by Apple. They promised us something that now they have taken away. They did a lot of publicity for years about syncing and all, as an attractive feature, and now they just remove it, without even a warning. Completely without warning. Isn't that something.....!

Yes, without warning!!! I bought the Mac on the condition that I can continue to use Outlook. So they sold me Outlook for Mac 2011. To sync Outlook contacts and calendar to iPhone I used to sync from Outlook to Mac via the sync services that is built in and then sync locally via iTunes from Mac to my iPhone. So iCloud does not work for me at all.

Without warning Maverrick took away this possibilty to sync from Outlook to Mac by removing this sync services. So I am double 'crossed'. Not only can I not sync from Mac to iPhone via iTunes, I cannot even sync my default contacts and calendar from Outlook to Mac. What shall I do? Only solution is throw Apple out of my 'system' altogether!!!!

I called Apple a few times. I was told they want their consumers to stop using Outlook eventually. So this Outlook for Mac 2011 is a trap????!!!!! But sirs, luckily I am not hooked on the Mac yet. I can still change.

Apple warned all developers who use SyncServices in their applications about this over two years ago. Microsoft have had plenty of time to develop an alternative solution and tell their customers - apparently they didn't bother.

That's hardly surprising though. Microsoft still haven't added support for the open CalDAV and CardDAV protocols to their products, half a decade after they started being used everywhere else.

I think, it is definitely a economical, profit related strategy that Apple is following. They must have gotten thousands of new iCloud users, practically over night, by taking the valuable local sync function (info tab) away from iTunes. Now that they got all these new iCloud users, evidently they will also have an enormous amount of new users that will need more storage space on iCloud, which of course in not for free. And here it is where Apple will make huge profits. This is what this is all about, of taking away the ability of locally syncing all devices and especially mobile devices with your Mac.

They already had hundreds of millions of iCloud users. That's already the overwhelming majority of iOS users. Only the very small percentage that use a Mac and upgraded to Mavericks are affected by this.

You get 5GB free, and nobody's contacts and calendars can take up that much space - iCloud doesn't even support that much contact and calendar data. So your assumption that people would need to buy more storage just to sync contacts and calendars is totally bogus.

... yes, but once your hooked on iCloud, eventually you will want to sync more then just your contacts (correct, that takes on ya few MB). You'll want to start uploading photos, music, videos....

Wrong again... Photos are not included in iCloud storage usage. iCloud doesn't store music (for that you need the seperate iTunes Match service), and neither does iCloud sync movies. Purchased music, movies, apps, books, TV shows, as well as your photo streams, don’t count against your free storage.

Don't you understand - iCloud is not a general purpose file upload/storage service, and much of the data you can store in iCloud doesn't count against the free 5GB.

This includes Apple Inc. as they failed to tell their own customers, the end users who use Apple apps on Apple hardware. There is no mention about local sync being removed in the release notes for a "free" upgrade OSX 10.9 aka Mavericks. And this is part of the problem and one more reason for complaints.

I tried the icloud. It messed up my contacts. Two weeks later it's still messing up my family's contacts. Didn't want to call apple support yet again, so for calendars I went to google. Its working fine across the various devices my wife, kids and grandmother uses. I'm thinking its time to move contacts to google.

Its taken more than several hours over three weeks to fix the mess caused to my family by this apple change. After all this I'm not even close to where it was working just before apple fired this surprise at those of its strongest supporters, those enthusiastic first adopters who upgraded to mavericks immediately because we trusted apple. All that work to stand still. And I went to m.i.t. (Mechanical engineering and finance -oh well). Too bad for the folks who aren't as willing to fiddle with technology as I am. Life is just too short for this kind of avoidable aggravation.

The whole scene reminds me of the critically acclaimed apple tv advertisement of more than a decade ago. In it there were two groups of computer users. The apple users were happy installing their computers that worked out of the box intuitively. The other group of users, the ones that looked and acted like the losers, were struggling for hours trying to get their windows pc to work without any luck. Now it's the apple loyalists who are the losers. If we're stuck in the cloud because apple took the best functionality of iTunes away to push us there, then so be it. We are better off going to google because it's intuitive for what it is and it works.

Wow. If Apple doesn't change their actions on this topic, then it will be another "Apple Maps" debokle. What's crazy, is that even though Apple knows their decision to boot Google's database from Apple Maps was wrong, they still weren't able to change back to Google. That poor decision by Apple almost made me switch, until Google saved the day with their Google Maps app that came out. I can survive not using the Apple Maps App, and just use the Google Maps App.

Unfortunately, cumulative mistakes compound, and if Apple doesn't fix this syncing issue, I'll be downgrading to Mountain Lion until it becomes obsolete, unless someone is able to make up for Apple's mistake again, and make an app that solves it.

I'd pay good money if a company that cared very much about security made a Mac OS replacement for iTunes syncing altogether. I'll look into making a syncing app for people who don't want to use Cloud services.

I've done it!

I've officially ditched Apple's iCal for Google Calendar. I exported everything, downloaded a nice little app to my iPhone called CalenMob, and I'm once again running in sync. Now I'll have a talk to guys in our IT dept. and see if we shouldn't do the same for the rest of the employees.

"Yes", it's just another cloud and "no", I haven't figured out what to do about my contact data but honestly... I just want to make whatever statement I can to Apple. I've been ridiculously loyal since 1987 and their ignorance and "scr-w you" attitude with this forced iCloud thing is just one too many for me.

Sorry Apple but arrogance has a price.

User numbers is probably the only thing that tells Apple they've missed out on their reality check.

I think the only thing we can do at this point is to fire some mail to the bigger blogs, who could make some noise. Maybe the ones that apple doesn't like and that would not have any problem to make a mess (I think g1zm0d0...). But also more reputable ones. This is a big thing I don't think they'll pass up.
