How to get a pdf in iBooks onto my iPhone?

I have successfully copied a pdf into iBooks on my Mac running Mavericks. I have enabled syncing in iBooks on both Mac and iPhone, but the pdf has not so far synced to my 'phone. I can't get it into iTunes, where books still sync to my 'phone. Please advise!

iPhone 5s, Other OS

What I've done with my phone was I started from scratch. Restored the phone and started over selected sync in the book button at the top when you plug your iOS device in and access it via iTunes like you would with syncing your photos. Your pdfs should be visable in the books section and you will select sync selected. Now when you try to put music in you can't select manually manage music but you can drag and drop your music onto you iOS device which is manually managing it you just can't have it checked.

yes I can see the book section on my ipad into itunes but only with what is already in it, I have tried to drag and drop pdf books but it doesn't works

If I sync i get nothing more or less than what I have already (from 10.8)

but the main problem is apple , what are they doing ? and is is still interesting to buy it ? ibook is just one part of the problem

thanks xodiak for your help

You should be draggin and dropping you PDFs into iBooks now, I've had to close iTunes a few times and reopen it to have the selection area refresh showing the new PDFs but that should work for you.

I agree they took a great idea, iBooks on the MAC, but took away all the useful features of iTunes which makes no sense. iBooks should have just been iTunes for Books and PDFs, all the same functions etc.

With respect, you are going round in circles! Please read earlier posts! Basically if you get the very latest updates of iTunes and iBooks, things pretty much work at least between your iPad or iPhone and it's "home" Mac. On the Mac you drag and drop or add to Library in iBooks and your pdf will appear in the Books area when your iPad or iPhone is connected. Then if ticked, it will sync to the device!

Bonne chance!

Peter:
Don't be too hasty with your criticism. I have the latest versions of all my software, including the OS. As I mentioned earlier, the PDF's are sitting in iTunes, Sync Books is set to all (and both PDF's are checked anyway) yet when I launch iBooks on the iPhone, I see the sync wheel spin at the top and then nothing. I have three very clean and empty shelves. I dragged the PDF's into iBooks on the Mac, so I followed that rule as well. Something is amiss and I don't have the patience of xodiak to start everything from scratch.

It must be an issue of capacity. If iCloud could handle the workload of continuously push synching PDFs from MacBook to iPhone to iPad (similar to the photo transfer of iCloud/iPhoto), then Apple would have "turned it on." It's disappointing, I agree. For my purposes, the main goal is having access on my MacBook to PDFs gathered on iPad, automatically - without email, dropbox, or even clicking "Apply" or "Sync" in iTunes. Even better would be if once I had saved a PDF from iBooks to my MacBook desktop and deleted that PDF from iBooks, then it would also be deleted from my iPad, automatically.

Unfortunately, Apple has not made "automatically" possible. Therefore, since I need to participate in the transfer of PDF files from iPad to MacBook, I am tempted to simplify and choose one App that can handle PDFs as well as Word and Excel documents. Using Quick Office, I am able to read all files with one App and the transfer from iPad to MacBook, while still not automatic, is at least doable for any type of document (Word, Excel, PDF) through the Apps > File Sharing function in iTunes.

Respectfully yours, a loyal Mac user that has way too much time into this problem. Andrew

Sorry but it doesnt work

I have 41 ebooks in my MAC ibooks and 28 in my ipad , and no idea at all how to get 41 in my ipad

on my ipad > settings > ibooks > sync = on , and no button nowhere to sync

if I open my mac > itunes > I can see the 28 ebooks in my ipad > If sync I get what I have already = 28 , but never 41

that's what one call not working at all

Dropbox seems to be the best way, it works always and at once

thanks to all

Guys,

Just to make it all clear (and I think Apple did a lousy job explaining it), the SYNC function on your iOS device is meant to ONLY sync bookmarks and the page number you're at now between iBooks on your Mac and the iBooks on your iOS devices. Nothing more nothing less.

It does not mean that the sync function on your iOS device will copy the books/pdf's from your Mac to your iOS device.

If you want to put a copy of a book/pdf you have on iBooks on your Mac on one of your iOS devices you must:

1) Open iTunes

2) Connect iOS device (cable or wi-fi)

3) In iTunes select the device you want to copy the books/pdf's to

4) After you selected your iOS device in iTunes, you'll see a number of tabs, select the "Books" tab. There you'll see all Books that you have on iBooks on your Mac

5) Proceed by checking all the books you'd like to have on your iOS device

6) This is kind of silly and I can understand it's confusing because now you'll have to click on sync to sync your iOS device with iTunes and get all books you checked at step 5 on your iOS device.

I hope this explaination helps a little.
