Can't send mail after mavericks upgrade

MacPro user (mid2010)

I am using a third party email address and am currently with O2 Broadband. Since upgrading to Mavericks, I am unable to send emails using the Mail app.

My outgoing mail server is: relay.o2broadband.co.uk

And I'm using the default ports.

I am aware that O2 Broadband customers are being moved over to Sky but my account is still with O2 right now.

I can send mail just fine on my Laptop which is still running OSX 10.7 so I'm fairly convinced this issue has something to do with Mavericks.

Anyone else suffering the same issues? I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

FWIW, folks… If you're still having problems getting Mail.app to send or receive, I've been having problems that look exactly like the ones described in the thread. Intermittent issues; servers offline; can sometimes send, but not receive, or vice-versa; issues with both SSL and standard connections.

Then I realized I was also having trouble connecting to a few websites -- like ones at the same web / mail host.

So I thought… DNS?

I Gargled for info on clearing the DNS cache on my machine, and found it here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5343

The terminal command for Mavericks is apparently same as that for Lion:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

I did this at around 2pm today, and I haven't had a single send or recieve issue -- or a "not found" web server -- since. That's 9 hours, and that's the longest I've gone without problems since my mail host replaced an expiring SSL cert weeks ago. (w00t!)

It could be that there's more than one issue with similar symptoms, and this is the fix to one of them.

Hope this helps…

I have circumvented the problem by downloading "MailTab for Gmail". I only use it for sending, amd since I am using IMAP, the sent mail appears instantly in OS X Mail, which I use to manage the rest of all functions.

This works until Apple fixes the problem.

MailTab appears in your toolbar and is very easy to use.

I am completely FRUSTRATED!

One week this has been happening. My Gmail is not loading on my iMac, iPhone and iPad.

Spent days with level 2-tier tech support.

As an experiment, I created a brand new gmail. Tested it out on all 3 - and POOF! it worked ine a flash!

I went back and put my original gmail address in and nothing but TROUBLE!

What is going on here?

Apple said to call "google" and that my gmail account is not working right.

Why would one email address be totally fine, and not another?

FYI: I tried my gmail on my girlfriends iPhone and it did NOT go through. I tried her gmail on MY iphone and it worked!

Help???

OK all. I too fell victim to my outgoing email dying after installing the Combo Mavericks 10.9.4 upgrade. I tried just about every suggestion in the forums to get my Apple mail app to send emails again, and I have to say, this suggestion did the trick. I have Comcast email which automatically (autofilled the information during the verification process) loaded Port 995 after I deleted and reestablished the account. Was never able to get the email to send...I should say here again--I did every razzle dazzle (stock) problem-solving suggestion on the forums before trying part of the simple suggestion above.

The only thing I did was go to the Comcast support page, look up how to establish an email connection and follow the setup instructions. I was surprised to find the suggested Port for outgoing email was "587"--not 995. After changing that one little thing...voila..email sending is back up and running..whew!
