Shared Macs Connection Failed

So we just updated ou iMacs with Mavericks at work... we can see each others station in the shared section in finder.

When we try to connect it says Connection failed.

I'm trying to look into it but I can't find much at the moment... anybody got the same problem?

we use the shared functions all the time! If anybody can help that would be awesome.

OK... ISSUE RESOLVED!

do this:

go to system preference and then go to Sharing. Select the File Sharing menu in the left side vertical bar, then go in option and uncheck the Share files and folders using SMBand leave the Share files and folders using AFP checked.

it seems to have resloved the issue for use here. 4 users, all interconnected without issues.

I had the same issue with 1 of our iMacs and the MacBook Pro that is used with it.

FIxed it by deselecting the SMB check box and leaving AFP checked. Make that if you perform ANY changes here that you reboot your Mac for the changes to take effect. It was the MBP that required the alteration to the settings. I had previously changed computer names etc., to no avail.

Thanks joema!

"In my case *both machines must have SMB disabled for Guest file sharing to work. If one machine is on SMB + AFP, and the other on AFP, it still won't work. This appears to be yet another bug, as it shouldn't even be trying to connect on SMB if it's disabled on one machine."

For a long time I was have issues with connecting to one of our servers. Some days it would connect, others it wouldn't. I saw your post and checked the SMB and AFP selections on the computers I was trying to connect to. Reset all the computers to be the same (AFP on, SMB off). Now I can connect to all of them with no problem.

I had been at this problem between three mac pros. Finally found a little dumb solution. I hope it works for you guys.

Go to system preferences/ Network

And add a location. Doesn't matter what you call it. Just move it from automatic to a a custom location.

After that all sharing worked.

User uploaded file

At the top of this screen the pull down menu that says automatic. Right there add a location. hit the +. Do this with all of the computers you are unable to gain access from and this should solve it. (maybe) This worked for SMB also. So don't listen to people telling you to turn of SMB under the options in file sharing.

good luck
