What has been lost in Numbers 3.0 upgrade?

Here's my list as of 10:30 EDT:

Function or feature or issue

Reorganize Panel gone

Categories View gone

References now don’t follow sorted rows as they did before. (Now like Excel)

Table Fills not supported

German user can’t use decimal point from numeric keypad.

Split Cells is gone

Sheet View seems to be the only view available during editing. Page view only available in the Print dialog.

Page Headers and Footers are gone

Edit Toolbar (add, delete, rearrange tool icons) is gone.

That's it from here at this time, but I think I have just scratched the surface. Would love to hear from others who are keeping a list.

Hi Simon,

VLOOKUP examines the data in cells, not the cell address. Logically, that should continue to work. The only use of cell addresses in VLOOKUP is in specifying the range of cells containing the lookup table. Placing the lookup table on a separate table, and specifying the range using only the column addresses should remove any likelihood of failure due to a sort.

Note: I have not yet migrated to Mavericks/Numbers 3.0.

AppleScript support gone (at least it doesn't show up in the AppleScript dictionary whereas Numbers '09 does).

I think this is all because Apple wanted to integrate all versions (iOs an OS X), but please, don't take useful features. I am very sad about this move. I actually think this version is worse than v2. The features added are less important then the features taken. 😟

Do apple developers actually use this program at home?? How is anyone supposed to move items around so they look right with out a page view that allows you to actually see how it is going to look before you actually go into print view.... This is stupid.

Ability to place an image into the background of a table cell appears to be gone.

numbers 5 is installed next to 4.3, so you will have both, but make sure you keep an original version of your document, so you can continue with 4.3

Correction. After a few tries got the image into the cell.

Lost features (or I can't find them any more)

• The formula input-bar
• Table background fill (new is text background fill, but it won't convert from '09 documents)
• OS X Spotlight infos (same warning as if you opened it on the iPhone)
• No more table styles (only 6 built-in ones)
• Print Layout view mode
• No custom colour filling for cells (only pre-defined colours, can't use your own colours)

On the upside, Numbers now supports text styles. Yay.

And also on the upside Numbers now supports bubble charts and sharing, just what I was yearning for!

Well, it's a little of the "you get what you pay for" syndrome, I guess. No wonder they didn't want to charge us existing users to "upgrade." The bet probably is that the new users coming in via iOS or new Macs won't much miss many Numbers features they didn't know were there before anyway. Meanwhile, we've still got the old version, which seems to run quite happily right alongside the new. Best of both worlds?

And you probably didn't know you really, really wanted those iOS-style concave function names and closing "crescent moons" as Barry dubbed them in a recent thread. The floating formula input area has to be "dragged wider" just about every time I want to take off the "training wheels" and just type in a formula. I see the formula is displayed down at the bottom of the page. But unlike the old formula bar up top, it's off limits to editing. But, really, what lovely concavities and crescent moons! Who wants mere parentheses when you can have those?

Yes, and the floating formula window can be dragged taller too, if you have a steady enough hand. They need to make the landing zone larger for that action.
