Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

It loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open - fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" and jsut sits there and waits.. Close the app and reopen - New Mail appears. Another bug?

I'm posting my console output again - is anyone else getting this?

Randy - have you seen this / any feedback from Apple on this?

I moved to Maverick yesterday.

i fell in the Mail -Exchange trap...

Should have read this thread before.

Sync with exchange works fine on 5S and IPad...but not on my superb Mac...

What a blow to A. reputation. making your customers immediately unhappy when they upgrade to what they tought was First class.

No denial possible.

this happens when you move to Maverick.

Yes, get out of Mavericks and back to ML, don't bother to call the Apple hotline or go to the genius bar. They either do not have a clue or are trained to deny that there is a problem. In my case they tried to figure out whether it was a server problem...

GM usually doesn't sell cars without wheels, and if they did they would need to call the stuff back. A computer without a functioning mail program is somehow equivalent, yet the Apple hotline or the genius bar people are just not allowed to tell you and the engineers haven't been able to fix it with the 10.9.1 update.

All of our employees are experiencing issues with Mac Mail on OSX 10.9.1 and Exchange.

One thing that reduced the # of issues was to install Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3. Found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2891587

Which specifically fixes: W3wp.exe crashes when you decline a meeting request by using Outlook Web App or an EWS application in an Exchange Server 2010 environment .... Found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2888911

While this reduced the # of issues, especially with Calendar it did not solve our issues with Exchange not synchronizing email.

I'm going to open up another ticket with Apple to see if it goes anywhere. Has anyone else tried to get Apple's attention vie the Developer Network? Would you mind providng me your ticket #'s so I can reference them?

Sorry, I don't have any solutions, but after more than 20 years with Mac's this is really dissapointing. I'm spending several hours every week tryin to get my mail to behave in a decent way. I will consider starting up Outlook, which I have refused to do. Maybee I should have started using it long ago, but kind of way prefer Mail, but not able to neglegt the observation: Mails does not seems to work well with Exhange for the present time.

Even more, that there is no messages or even rumors about some type of action to improve the Mail - Exchange issues. With more and more people using their Mac's to connect to Exchange servers, it should be critical for Apple to provide some kind of fix for these issues. One should think. Or not?

Hi, thanks for pointing to Airmail. I have been struggling with my work Exchange server and MAIL for the past month, but finally gave up today, since none of the tricks suggeted in this forum and elsewhere did give me the mail messages back into my mail folders on this rather new iMac. Sorry to say.

After 3 hours with Airmail I'm just so surprised and amazed: Airmail setup took a fraction of the time that MAIL uses, and it nearly instantly created the mailfolders and within minutes populated these with the mail messages that I need so badly. Maybee Apple should just start over, buy Airmail and integrate it into the next major update? My user experience so far, would indicate that.

Well, this is a fine mess Apple has gotten us into (apologies to Laurel and Hardy). I used Windows/IBM compatible computers for more than 20 years but switched to Apple looking for elegance, reliability and simplicity. I run my own consulting business and grew tired of having to be distracted from my work to be the IT guy too.

When I switched I moved from Outlook to Mail and was a happy camper. I had to buy a third party conversion software to move locally stored .pst files but I assumed that was a one time deal. With Mavericks my Gmail and Exchange mail experienced the problems you all have detailed. So I decided to go back to Outlook (this time the Mac version). That transition went fine except (as I have noted earlier) Mavericks Mail changed the .mbox attributes on exported mail so those files cannot be read by Outlook. For many this may not be an issue because they do not have thousands of locally stored emails, but it was critical to me. My Exchange server hosting company (Intermedia) was clueless about this, with outdated instructions on how to move locally stored emails from Mail to Outlook. So just like I did years ago, I bought a third party conversion program for $30 to move locally stored emails, this time to Outlook rather than to Mail.

All is well now. I don't have religiously-based views between Outlook and Mail. Each has its own pros and cons. I just need something that WORKS. Since I thought this was Apple's strong suit, this episode has been really disappointing and hope that it is not a signal of a much larger problem. We all depend on our stuff to work. It costs us money and time if it does not.

best wishes to you all in your struggles...

Alan

Okay, let's try something. I work for an IT consulting practice and we deal with a lot of Exchange work. If anyone is interested and has access to their Exchange server (or knows enough to be dangerous) then please contact me. I'll try and determine if we are all running the correct updates and have things configured properly.

My email address is bradish75 .a.t. hotmail .d.o.t. com

Mac Mail uses EWS which is little different than RPC over HTTPS. Though, Outlook for Mac uses the same EWS as Mac Mail, so if Outlook for Mac works then so should Mac Mail.

A disclaimer: I also am having this problem with Mac Mail.

So after elaborating on this for last 3 months, where in the mean time Mail started work (for whatever reason) with Exchange and then stopped again, I got enough and switched to Airmail as well...

Airmail seems very nice, even supports Evernote and Dropbox, and the only flaw was the yahoo account setup, where it was not able to find the right options automatically, but after googling a bit, Airmail support pages have the correct setups which had to be applied manually.

Jan 12, 2014 10:37 AM in response to navodar

Understand your message that Airmail in many ways does the job one would expect from the Apple Mail application.

However I have experienced that Airmail seems to have some flaws with the presentation of some mail messages, presenting them as one long sentece and making these impossible to read.

I have therefore been so lucky to have a license for the Office Outlook app, and that works fast and always seems updated from the Exchange server, even if I miss the clean interface that Mail had. But functionality is more important than design with my mails. Sorry to say.
