Mavericks and memory (Ram)

Hi

Anyone else noticed how Mavericks uses memory ?

I have a new Macbook Air 2013 with 4GB of memory and after a short wile.

The system have used 3.99GB of the total 4GB 😟 Isn't that a big problem. Thats can't be right.

I would think that the computer would suffer greatly after a short time of use and the computer

needs to be restarted. If thats true. The new Mavericks ***** big time on Computers with less

memory. Or is there something i don't know.

Thanks

Mavericks uses memory smarter than previous OS's, not necessarily less memory. Look at the swap memory if that is high then you have a problem. Also, if the mac is still running fast then there isn't a problem.

Is OSX going the same way as Windows? There's something really wrong with this latest upgrade. It's simple - it just doesn't work properly. There's a real problem and I feel like I'm now back using a Windows PC again. Why should I pay quite good money on Apple hardware and software for underperformance? I stopped buying MS products long ago due to poor performance and I'll happily stop buying Apple if they go the same way. There are other providers and open source products which would suit my purposes. I really Apple and they're letting me down. I'm sure they don't give a sh1t about me but if enough customers waken up to their declining standards they may catch on before they end up as another Nokia.

It's been working properly for me and many others. If there was something inherently wrong with the OS, wouldn't it manifest on our systems?

If you are basing that opinion on the things reported here, there's nothing terribly different about this release from any of the others. There have been just as many problems reported with Lion and Mountain Lion. Nothing suprising.

Lots of people have lots of different configurations, both hardware and software. If the software or hardware isn't compatible, then you get problems.

There are also changes to the OS that some people don't like. That has happened on every new release. This one is slightly compounded by the people who chose not to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion, but did upgrade to Mavericks. All the accumulated changes after Snow Leopard could be quite shocking taken all at once since the incremental changes caused quite a stir at that time.

You can try booting into Safe Mode and see if things are better. If they are, you have to figure out what system modifications you've installed that are not compatible.

If nothing changes, a re-install might fix the problems.

Spoken like a true apple fan boy. Go back and look at my specs. My iMac is more than capable of running Mavericks. I upgraded to Mavericks from Mountain Lion. When the problems arose, I did a clean install. Did not install one single app yet, nor restore from a time machine back up. This fixed nothing. Your blaming my system, but the simple fact is is that I did not have these problems with Mountain Lion.

It's unfortunate that yours doesn't work. Can you explain why mine works. No clean install. Upgraded over the top of Mountain Lion. Also installed clean and Migrated for testing. Same thing. No issues. Please using your vast, Non-Fanboy knowledge, explain why the same OS works for me.

I am not here to explain why yours works. Explain to me and the many who are posting here complaining about their own issues why yours works and ours does not. Explain to me why my system (which according to you is the problem) worked just fine under Mountain Lion?

Again, my specs are more than capable of running Mavericks.

You remind me of the Apple fanboys who insisted there were no battery issues with the iPhone 4s simply because they themselves were not experiencing issues, when in reality there were many problems.

I don't know why your system works when mine does not. All I know is that my system was working fine under Mountain Lion, and is broken under Mavericks. I have great specs. I should not have to even think about upgrading my iMac to a newer release. I will not be forced to upgrade a 3000 dollar system every 1-2 years because Apple uses planned obsolecense for their systems.

Just as I expected. Just another Apple hater without any knowledge. Please try a little harder next time.

"It's been working properly for me and many others. If there was something inherently wrong with the OS, wouldn't it manifest on our systems?" Oh dear. There's so much wrong with that statement that I don't know where to begin. Maybe you should have just asked me to dig up my dead father and see if he's breathing after 4 years. After all, your father is still fine and they both had the same infection.

"If you are basing that opinion on the things reported here, there's nothing terribly different about this release from any of the others." You're not good at reading English or doing any research, are you? If you scroll back a few posts you'll find a previous one from me.

"Lots of people have lots of different configurations, both hardware and software. If the software or hardware isn't compatible, then you get problems." You have a very high IQ, don't you? *sarcasm*

"There are also changes to the OS that some people don't like." Yeah? Really? Like slow responses?

"That has happened on every new release. This one is slightly compounded by the people who chose not to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion, but did upgrade to Mavericks." Well, I ain't one of them.

"All the accumulated changes after Snow Leopard could be quite shocking taken all at once since the incremental changes caused quite a stir at that time." Irrelevant in my case.

Next time you post, try saying something mildy useful.

Well I gave it 4 days, it was running slow when first installed, then started operating find and now died on me!

Close Safari and the Mac freezes, 3 times I have ended up with a black screen and nothing else, there is no way of shutting the Mac down when the screen goes all black so it is a case of hit the power switch.

Open up simple app like LINE now takes about 30 to 40 second to open, before it was instant.

Just got my 8GB of RAM today, so will put that in in the next few days, but I have a feeling it is not going to help after reading others posts on here.

I think Apple is becoming the new 'Mircosoft', if that happens I will just return to using a MS system and stop wasting a fortune on Apple hardware and software.

Yes, but there are people monitoring the Discussions, they are willing to say all is well when it's not. I'm having memory issue with my iMac and I've reinstalled Mavericks 4x. So yeah there is a problems with the Memory Management. Someone added their 2 cents of dribble and it went no where. Even as I write this it's tell me that I have 850 mb and Safari is the only thing running from a cool boot.
