Hot corners don't work

I have a three monitor set up. I've always had the upper right corner (far right screen) designated as a Hot Corner to start the screen saver. Since upgrading to Mavericks, the hot crner doesnt seem to work. Setting is still the same in the prefs, but the screen saver won't turn on.

I think I saw that hot corners are supposed to be the corner of the active monitor, but this doesn't seem to work either...and doesn't really lend itself to my old behavior of throwing the cursor to the extreme upper right as I leave my desk to lock my computer.

Any thoughts?

found a very simple solution for problems with gestures and hot corners in general.

Open terminal, enter killall Dock

There is a drop down in the lower left corner of the Screen Saver; it default to "Never" after upgrade; change it to "1 Minute", and Voila.

The simple change of the screensaver activation time recommend by Schaupenhaeur worked perfectly for me - so simple!

Similar approach worked for me: setting screensaver to 1 minute didn't work unfortunately, but after clicking the "Preview" button (it only shows if you hover over the screensaver preview), the screensaver kicked in. After this the hot corners started to work again.

In 10.9.2 I found that the screen saver hot corner does not work if the energy saver setting to power off the display is shorter than the screen saver delay time. If I set the screen saver timeout shorter than the display power timeout, then the hot corner works again.

I had a similar problem after upgrading to Mavricks as well this is what I had to do to fix it. I had to boot into recovery and run a disk repair in the disk repair utilities. This is a nice article explaining how to do it. http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/08/repair-boot-disk-mac-os-x-disk-utilit/

I was walking by an "Authorized" Apple retail store and stopped in to ask one of their staff about Hot Corners. He showed me that after the OS X El Capitan update that you have to "re-implement" Dashboard. He did a thumb + 3 fingers swipe on the track pad to bring up the screen captured below and the selected Dashboard on the bottom right side and now it is accessible again via Hot Corners.
