my iPhone 5 doesn't play music new snap adapter on my BMW has anyone else had this problem

My BMW dealer has the adapter ending in 309. I installed it while still at the dealer and it did not work. Clearly there continue to be issues.

If you dealer has the adaptor ending in 309 then they have units that should have been recalled. Hence the fact that it doesn't work. BMW have said that they are still having issues and should be released in 2014.

Any update on this?

No update that I am aware of. I have given up on this with doubts it will ever work. At some point I will visit my local BMW dealer to hear what the latest excuse is for the part not working.

I am very disappointed as well with the long delay to support a phone that has been out for almost two years. Looks like German engineering lags Japanese Engineering that does not seem to be suffering the same issues 😁

Patrick Cupillari at BMW USA is the product manager for the yet to be delivered iPhone 5/5S Music/Media adapter which may have the part number 84 21 2 351 309. He can be reached at his first name, a period, his last name, at sign, then 'bmwna.com', I have written to him twice asking when this part will be available and so far he is not replied so I am not optimistic. I am very disappointed in BMW for their lack of Apple iPhone support.

I have a 2012 X5, with CIC navigation system etc.

Rather than wating for the Media/Music iPhone5 snap-in to be released, I have had success with the Connect adapter and playing music.

Like others here, I had purchased the snap-in 84212351-308 and it would display cover art and work as expected but no music (but I made the purchase knowlingly!)

If you are able to find someone that knows about BMW coding (connecting a laptop to the car's computer modules to change certain features) you need to change the audio signal input from analog to digital to match the output from the iPhone's lightning port.

In the MEDIA module I changed the USB2_IPOD_AUDIO line from "ANALOG" to "DIGITAL" and now it works exactly the way it used to with my iphone 4 and old media adapter. Full operation, BT phone connection, artwork... and tunes!

I'm based in SW London, so happy to help anyone in the area with the coding bit. I don't understand why dealers aren't able to offer this as an interim solution, or maybe I do(!)

What software you use for coding? I currently just have the BMWhat app on iPhone, but that is a bit limited with the coding options.

Coding using NCSExpert. I hadn't seen the BMWhat app before! Looks pretty handy for changing all the usual "convenience" features but limited for underlying system functions, like this one. I couldn't see the MEDIA module in any of the guidance.

I've seen mention of the USB2_IPOD_AUDIO coding in a couple of forums but no real confirmation that it works, so I thought I'd try myself. I just can't believe such a simple fix (to those with the tools) isn't offered by BMW directly.

There's another version of NCS Dummy which is considerably easier to use. Although I don't have the cable so can't talk from experience.

I have an M4 Sport (2014) and was surprised to see how BMW claim to be the "Apple of the car industry" and yet my brand new car and iPhone cant even perform tasks available in far cheaper cars with cheaper gear.

Short answer is probably... Provided your car has the CIC system, which I believe became an option in the X5 from September 2009. Easiest way to find out is to check through coding what modules are installed and what options are availabile to change.

(Don't know whether older CCC cars have the baseplate/combox option which is necessary for the snap-in anyway)

Mine is the CCC version I believe but has the snap in adapter base and smartphone integration. Do you think this method would work in mine?

Do the BMW dealerships have the ability to do this?
