my iPhone 5 doesn't playback music on my new snap in adapter on my BMW has anyone else had this problem
iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.3
At last some sensible posting identifying the issue rather than the hysteria of it must be Apple
But be beware the two currently available cradles do work in non iDrive vehicles as I know
Hi All I am new to this but now appreciate my BMW dealership gave me incorrect information and from reading other responses appreciate it's a BMW problem which seems to be hopefully addressable with the Q1 2014 cradle.Fingers x it will solve the lack of audio.I am not a tech savvy person but all I ask is for stuff to work and for the person selling to give the correct answer based on a sound understanding.BMW are too slow in responding to their customer needs.
Thanks to all for your very helpful comments.
Hi all, to the best of my knowledge, BMW's has certain codes like 6NL and 6NF which needs to be ticked at the time of ordering the vehicle. The codes mentioned are quite confusing and contradictory. (S6NFA - Music interface for Smartphone, S6NLA - Connection Bluetooth + USB devices incl. and S6NRA - for APPS). If you have vehicles with these codes, then it should play music. Also I believe the media adaptor (for playing videos from ur iphone through the adaptor) has not yet launched.
Thanks.
My 2010 x5 has all three: with the existing "Connect" adapter, it has control but no audio. I need the yet-to-be released "Music/Media" adapter to get control and audio.
I just bought a 2013 x5 w BMW apps, Idrive, tech, sport, convenience package. I have iPhone 4S, does anyone know
If the snap in works ok. Or do u have any advice bf i purchase it?
For starters the iPhone 4S is a different form factor to the iP5 and the Snap in cradles this thread refers to is the "new" BMW cradles to take the iPh5 with lightning connector
iPhone 4/S cradles have been availablee for a while whether they will work with the new levels of BMW software ............
For clarification, there are currently 2 snap-in adaptors available for the iPhone 5/5S but a 3rd is on the way.
Should be available in the 1st quarter of 2014. If you want to play music from your iPhone 5/5S then you will need to wait for Snap-In Adapter Music/Media BMW part number 84 21 2 351 309.
If you just want the basic adaptor for charging and aerial connection then go for the
Snap-In Adapter Basic BMW part number 84 21 2 351 307
Beware of this adaptor, which is currently available also but not compatible with all BMWs
Snap-In Adapter Connect BMW part number 84 21 2 351 308
I bought the xxxx308, it work fine with all apps such as Facebook, Web Radio, etc, except Music and Video from my iPhone 5s with IOS7. Checked and tested by the local BMW dealer (Toronto), they said the xxxx308 only worked with iPhone 5 with IOS6, and they accepted the adapter return to them. I got the money back anyway, hopfully, the coming xxxx309 will solve all the problems. I using the media adapter for my iPhone 4s for almost two years, and its did fine before,
It seems like a lot of BMW dealers are misinformed and don't help the situation. IOS 7 is not the issue, it is the adaptor ending in part number 308 only works with cars that have the 'connection' option installed. Cars with options 6NF and 6NR need the adaptor ending in 309
While the ignition is in the vehicle try snapping the adapter out/in and then place your phone in it. Let me know if that works. I have to do that each time I want to use it.
I have an early year 2013 model 335i xDrive with technology package and my iphone 4s worked flawlessly in the snap in connector I got at the time I bought the car. Now, of course, my phone is ready to be replaced and as I started looking into a new snap in adapter I find out about this stupid BMW problem where the current adapter for the iphone 5 doesn't work with my car because my head unit is CIC (previous idrive version). The fact that my "new" car has old technology and the fact that BMW hasn't fixed this yet is infuriating beyond belief. Especially since the iphone 5 has been out for some time now.
I use pandora and audible apps constantly and now I guess I have to hang on to my dying iphone 4 a little longer until the idiots at BMW can be bothered to fix it. This assumes they even will. I've spoken to BMW Customer Service and got to a relations "expert" who literaly started reading me a standard corporate non-response about how they are sorry and they are working on it before she even understood my question. Eventually I got so fed up with her failure to address the question I asked her to check with someone who would know for sure, after a few moments on hold she came back with a different version of the same non-response, it was almost comical. I'm sure she's paid well for her BS. It was absolutely rediculous and I filed a formal complaint. I almost wish there was a class action law suit in process here, I'm that ticked off. How can they advertise iphone integration and then fail to keep up with changes.
If it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't even have known that there is actually an expectation that the appropriate adaptor is coming out this quarter. BMW website is as useless as their customer relations "experts" and their dealers. I guess at this point I'll wait and wait to see.
As for Apple's lightning adapter, I really wish they just would have kept the old one, having to replace all my accessories is going to suck. Other than being smaller, what's the point? So it's faster, who cares, I sync with the cloud anyway. So it's digital, big woop, who needs it. It worked fine before as far as I am concerned and look at all the hassle it's causing everyone. Regardless though, this is BMW's problem more than Apple's, but if they don't have a solution soon, I'm seriously considering just going for a different phone altogether. My loyalty to Apple has limits and I wouldn't have this problem if they didn't change the stupid connector in the first place.
Last thing, $250 for a stupid snap in adaptor? Seriously BMW, ***!?
Today I made my third trip to my local BMW dealer to check on the status of the iPhone 5 center console adapter for my 2012 535. The one that is actually supposed to play music. I was originally given the version ending in 308. When that did not work, I was told to come back in January, 2014 when the new version is released, ending in 309. Neither version works. No sound. This is frustrating. The adapter I had for my iPhone 4 worked perfectly fine. No issues. It is amazing that Apple and BMW cant get together to resolve this issue. Especially for a $250 product.
Why should Apple get together with BMW ,if BMW want to resolve the issue for their customers, They as registered developers of Apple devices, have access to all the technical support they require ,just don't seem to care or have the expertise
This a BMW problem not Apple
Did you find the part number ending in 309? I called up my dealership and they said it is not available yet. Thanks.
Part number ending in 309 has still not been released as BMW are still having issues with it. So until it is released you will not be able to play music or video from you iPhone 5 or 5S.
