I just bought the iPhone 5/5s snap-in adapter 84212351308 today for my 2013 335 xDrive sedan with Technology Package. I waited months for this thing to become available in the USA. I have the iPhone 5 with latest iOS7 and just updated my BMW software to the latest version.

As others have described, I can control music playback, I see album artwork, I see the music playback progress bar.... but NO AUDIO. You gotta be kidding me BMW!! I'm bummed.

I had a friend demo his Ford Sync system in a new Explorer SUV. Yeah, Ford Sync gets bad press but honestly, it was a joy to operate compared to BMW's convoluted and unreliable nightmare interace. And it works with my iPhone 5.

Just picked up my new adapter today, (84 21 351 308) for my 2011 X3 today and had the same audio problems mentioned above. I did find a cumbersome fix that allows audio playback. Each time the iphone is inserted into the cradle, there is an incompatibility message that says that the iphones USB audio is not supported by this device (not an excat quote) and that the Bluetooh audio has been turned off/disabled for this deivce. If you use the iDrive selector and select your iphone, then select the settings for the iphone, you will find a setting to select "bluetooth for audio". Select it. (check the box).

Then go back to the Multimedia screen and under the external devices menu you will now see a bluetooth option. Select it and you can now hear the audio of what you had previously selected from the original external device, iPhone menu. The bad news - each time you want to select a new playlist, you have to select that playlist from the iPhone external device menu, then switch to the bluetooth audio menu to hear it. And yes, you have to do this each time you start you car. But for long trips, once you set it up, it will work.

I have the exact same problem brand new iphone 5 adapter with iphone 5S will not play music it will recognize music and show album art, also it will not recognize ANY video, phone seems to work though.

As other have mentioned this is either a problem with OS7, the hardware adapter, the updated media and phone software. Or the cars software. Help from BMW would be nice. The dealership has no idea about any of this stuff.

This is a BMW problem. Consider that this adapter is over one year late, and upon delivery does not work. Really speaks to the fact that while BMW builds a magnificant mechanical device, when it comes to integration of electronics into the system they are totally inept. What a joke.

According to my dealer this adapter does not work with any version of IOS7, and they do not have a clue as to when they will get a fix. However, if you look at an earlier posts it is expected that there will be yet another part number for this adapter (309) that will address the issue. Perhaps due out in Jan., 2014. I sent that information to my dealer and they were thankful for the information. I think they get nothing from BMW. This board has better information than BMW. What does that tell you.

Per BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE on November 12, 2013:

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the iPhone 5 Snap-In Adapter.

The Connect Version Snap-In Adapter that is currently available works exclusively with the newest version of our iDrive system. The Music and Media Version Snap-In Adapters for the iPhone 5 will be available in early 2014.

The BMW Customer Relations and Services Department is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., ET. You can reach us at 1-800-831-1117

--------------------------

I returned my Connect Version Snap-In Adapter today for a refund.

What's confusing is that the shopbmwusa website is misleading and will show that the Connect Version Snap In Adapter for iPhone 5/5s (pn 84212351308) is compatible with some cars based on inputing vehicle year, model, type, etc. The BMW dealer parts person also found that it is supposed to be compatible with my car.

A different parts person, using my VIN, looked up some very obscure details for me today when I returned the part for refund. In his dealer computer system (not available to the public) he found very specific option codes (that my car does not have) which are required for the Connect Version.

I was told to wait until Q1CY2014 for the "Music/Media" version according to my dealer.

Bottom line: Don't trust everything you read on the BMW website.

What you mentiioned will work, you are just overriding BMW's override.

BMW will turn off your phone's bluetooth music support when he phone is detected in the cradle. When you switch back, you get the bluetooth interface back.

Hit that Media/CD button ... you'll see your iPhone listed under "bluetooth".

BTW: I have the same problem too. All the controls and no audio.

I think it's the same Lightning connector BMW gets from Apple, it's just tha the pins for audio was not connected? I think I'll wait as well. Our '12 X5 with "everything" does not work with iPhone 5S iOS 7.0.4.

Hello every body

If you have CIC navigator (pre March/2013), you will need the Music/Media (84212351309), on sale on Q1 2014.

If you have NBT navigator (from March/2013), you will need the Connect (84212351308), the Media/Music adapter would work also

So before buying the adapter every body should know if he have CIC or NBT, the reason, is that the NBT uses Digital Audio and the CIC not.

My dealership got an email yesterday from BMW due to the high number of returns. There are three variations for the iPhone 5/5S Docks:

(1) Phone only

(2) Phone, Digital Control and Analog Audio called "Connect"

(3) Phone, Digital Control and Digital Audio called "Media/Music"

Prior to this, BMW sold "Phone only", "Media" and "Music" as their three configurations. "Media" has control with audio, while "Music" was iPod interface/audio only. My 2010 3-series needed "Music" while my 2012 X5 with "BMW Apps" required "Media".

So, if you have my symptom (all control but no audio out) ... DO NOT get the "Connect" variant. Wait until Q1 2014 to get audio for your control.

ps This is not an Apple problem; it's a BMW problem. The lightning spec is very clear about audio out changing between the 30-pin (analog) and Lightning (digital) connectors.
