Aperture library not supported in Pages 5.0?

When I click on media, it now just shows iPhoto, not Aperture. Anyone know if there is a option somewhere, or is this a problem for all?

Also, no search bar for music? They expect me to just scroll through my whole library now until I stumble across what I want.

Can't get my Aperture-based library to work either. Upgraded the Aperture version to Mavericks-compatible, opened and closed it (so it can upgrade library) - still nothing.

And yes, lack of search is ridiculous. I hope that's not the case for photos - I have 50k+ and use tags/names extensively.

I am sticking with Pages '09 for this and many other reasons...

I too have come across this frustrating "lack" of a feature. There is a way around it. When you click on the photo the content aware sidebar will have a tab called Image. From there you can choose the Replace radio button. From there you will be able to access your aperture library just like you did in Pages '09.

If you repeat the process for your music you will find that the search is available. It seems like most of the advanced functions can be found under those sidebar menus.

I hope they add this functionality in the quick menus.

And I just found out that there is no "New from Template" button. So, like in Pages '09 I had preferences set up so that "Command N" would launch a new blank document, but if I actually wanted a template, I could just go to file and choose 'New from Template'. If I set that up in the new pages, I get a blank document for everything, to even access the template browser I have to turn that off in preferences. Or am I missing a button somewhere on that?

And they took out the Script Template! Why would you take out Templates! It doesn't even carry over support for the documents started in '09. So I have no access to the paragraph styles that I need to even finish those.

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Apple removed over 2/3rds of the templates from Pages '09 because Pages 5 mangles them.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Thenez

Could you please explain:

When you click on the photo the content aware sidebar will have a tab called Image. From there you can choose the Replace radio button. From there you will be able to access your aperture library just like you did in Pages '09.

When you click on the photo in the media browser? or ? Where is the sidebar?

Thanks.

That does not work for me; when I do so, the aperture database is "greyed out" and I cannot select it. How lame is this. So much for Apple app integration. I have to save an image outside of aperture and then select it to add to a pages document whereas in the past all my images were available in the inspector. Hope they get a clue and fix this.

Posted in October, several months ago, and still no sign of any solution for this.

It is admittedly not a high priority issue for me, but it seems silly to punish people for buying the "pro" product Aperture. Surely this cannot be called anything but a bug. It is not a feature. Not a limitation. It is a clear bug, where the product does not provide what it promises.

It would be so nice if Apple could show at least some interest in their own word processor.

Hi Slevin55,

I can confirm, that it is possible to access to any picture file by either pressing the replace radio button as it is written by thenez or via menu 'insert' and 'choose' as written by Bwh888 - but I can't open the Photo-Library even if I made all files visible before. It's obviously not possible to open the library as a package.

Finaly I don't know any way to access directly to an Aperture-Library within Pages 5.0. But I solved the problem this way:

I started iPhoto 9.5.1 while pressing ALT. Then I've choosen "Create New..." (in German "Neue erstellen..."). Check in finder by "Get info", that the new library is of kind "Photo Library", Version "iPhoto-Mediathek 9.5.1" (perhaps in English OS "iPhoto-Library 9.5.1"), neither kind "iPhoto Library" nor "Aperture Library".

Then I closed iPhoto 9.5.1 and opend this newly created library in Aperture 3.5.1. It was empty, of course. Now I took my old Aperture-Library (about 25 GB) and imported it into the empty new Photo Library by drag and drop. Ok, it took hours to finish, but then I had all my stuff in a Photo Library, that can be opened in the mediabrowser of every app of iWork like Pages 5.0.1 without any problems. The library itself increased a bit (100-200 MB), but I think it's ok. The new Photo Library can be opend in Aperture and iPhoto as well.

So try to go the same way. Hope, it works for you too.
