Adobe is free for the first month so you can download and decide for yourself. FCP7 is still fine if your not dealing with raw files. That's the main reason I'm transitioning, but we'll all have to eventually.

I rarely burn DVDs these days. Almost everything I do goes to Vimeo in HD, but I still occasionally have burn DVDs so yes DVD sp or even iDVD sometimes. I still use Soundtrack too and am considering buying the new Motion. It's only $50 and looks very powerful for graphics. I'm not really a fan of After Effects.

Tony,

Not to drive you crazy but I just saw this posting on the Apple discussion page re: Mavericks upgrade:

Thanks for the input, Ronny but I came across one other problem mentioned on the Apple discussions in connection with Mavericks upgrade:

"My WD 6TB My Book Studio II with RAID 1 reads empty in finder and any other program after updating to OS X Mavericks. When I updated my OS I made sure none of my external drives were connected in case anything went wrong I wouldn't lose 5 years of work. After the update was complete and I plugged my WD drive back in and found nothing I contacted WD's Tech Support as well as an IT professional I used to work with. Neither were able to help. I contacted a number of data recovery specialists and recieved a number of quotes starting around $1200 and up. Imagine my surprise when I came across this post with so many other similar issues all seeming to stem from OS X Mavericks. At this point I am afraid to connect any of my other external drives for fear they may also lose all the information I have stored."

Is it possible that Mavericks could cause the external drive not to read its files? I've haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. This concerns me because I have an external WD 6TB My Book Studio II drive.

I assume you never had this problem. Were your external drives connected to your HD when you performed the upgrade?

Thanks,

Phil

I ve also been using Maverick on my MAC PRO TOWER 26 gig ram, late 2008 model.

BUT: Mavericks is not using a LIBRARY folder as other OS have so when I went to throw away my FCP7 user data I could not find it easily

do you happen to have any exp doing this also??

I ve not lost any data on drives either but the usual bugs of changing Capt and Seq settings usually throw off

the program requiring me to dump my pref file and do a restart.

any help greatly appreciated

Lou

FCP 7 appears to function in 10.9 Mavericks. I am currently testing a typical one hour timeline, will add more when I take it through typical post operations.

First thing I notice when upgrading on a cloned-over test partition-- my QuicKeys broke! Gotta update that, FlipforMac, and SnapzPro.

But FCP playback is smooth.

It may be that, since I cloned over my 10.7.4 partition to a clean partition reserved for update testing, which provides an upgrade basis for 10.9, I also brought over QuickTime 7 Pro and of course, all its components and all the apps I have that worked under 10.7.4, including Adobe CS 5.5 Production Premium elements. It may be the old QT components coexist with new AV components without issue.
