OSX Mavericks keyboard volume buttons not working on MacBook. Help.

macmeister, you must have admin priviledges on your computer to execute anything as root. Entering your password will only allow that if the user id you are using is in the admin group.

BTW, the system is working properly by not typing anything when you enter your password. Even if your user id is in the admin group, you will not see anything change on the screen as you type your password.

I'm having the opposite problem. Different keys on my keyboard and even touching my Wacom Intuos Touch is initiating the volume up keystroke.

I like my music loud, but not in the middle of a meeting. Just started happening today, not sure why. Meh.

OK, so where do I go to input my admin privileges? I assume that I use Finder to access it? Thank you.

David, once again could you please provide guidance on logging in as admin? I went to my sys pref > user & groups and we are automatically signed in so I'm stumped.

macmeister, when you go to system prefs, you should see a checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer". If that is checked you have admin priviledges. If it is not checked, then you either need the person who admininsters the computer to check that box for you. Or, you can just ask that person to change the volume control as explained above.

When I'm in sys prefs the "allow user to administer this computer" is checked but it is greyed out. Also, I'm the sole owner and user and the only only admin so I'm always logged in. I'm still stumped.

If you are the sole user, then you are the admin. And that "Allow user to administer this computer" should be checked.

If you weren't the sole user, then you'll have to click the little pad lock in the lower left corner. Enter the admin password when prompted. Then the "Allow user..." will become available. If you are the sole user, this will continued to be grayed out.

I was patient and Carolyn's fix worked for me.

I think I found a quicker and easier fix. At least it works for me.

When the volume keys don't respond (happens pretty often and I haven't figured out why) I simply put the computer in sleep mode then re-awaken it. Takes a few seconds but it works every time.

my hotkeys are not responding. This includes the brightness, volume and eject keys. I have been looking for a solution for the past week and have been unsuccessful. The basics have been covered i.e. Fn Keys are not on. I reset the PRAM but no joy. Basic shutdown and restart are of no use. I even got some software in attempt to assign the missing functions to other keys (spark/karabiner) but no luck whatsoever. This thing is driving me crazy. I just switched from windows and Ive had my mac for the better part of one month and I am not satisfied (lots of mediocre issues here and there). If this were an issue on windows it would easily and certainly resolved. I am not the only one with this problem and it would be best if we all rub minds and sort this thing out.

I have a Macbook 13-inch, Mid 2010, Version 10.9.4 with Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, tho knowing this will not make much of a difference. All I can say is I think somehow the actual functions have been wiped off my mac as these keys were working once upon a time. The only way I think this issue would be to get these drivers (if apple even has these available). i can't make heads or tails of this .... Any thoughts, ideas, help and suggestions would be throughly appreciated.

I hear you but the odd thing is that my keys were working while i was using maverick until they just disappeared. I colluded something must have been deleted. If only I knew what then I think I could resolve this issue. Haha I pray this bug is fixed sometime soon .. cheers for the reply
