This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [email]

Hello All,


I just upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mavericks. Since doing so, I now have an error message when I attempt to retreive my email - "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with... [email address]"


I have a gmail account for my appleID.


The email account that is showing problems is an @me.com email address.


The only other problem I noticed was that after the update, my me.com email address had a Facebook label in the account settings. I tried disabling it and that did not change anything. I next tried deleting the facebook account, nothing changed. Still showing the same error message.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I found the answer to my own problem. I ended up deleting my iCloud account by:


1) signing out of iCloud.

2) deleting my iCloud from Mail (Mail -- Accounts --- highlight the iCloud acount --- click on the minus sign to delete.

3) I then added the iCloud account back: Mail ---Accounts ---click on the plus sign --- select iCloud account as the type to add --- enter your iCloud username and password.


That worked for me. If you do this, make sure to back everything up first (just in case). Fortunately, I didn't have to use any restore - it just worked for me.


All is well in Apple land again!

I'm getting the This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "[e-ddress at my personal domain]". Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem.

I click the "iCloud Preferences..." button, but everything looks normal, and I don't have a clue what to do to try to fix the problem.


Many of the previous "fixes" mention Mail (I assume the Mac app), but I use Gmail exclusively. The only things I know I'm using iCloud for is photos and to backup my iPhone.


I agree with Tim Hill1, Apple should either fix this, or publish the authoritive procedure to follow.

Open iCloud settings and uncheck mail so mail is disabled from Apple as you don't need to use your Apple email address unless this is your only email address and if this is the case you won't be getting this problem.

I had this problem on my iPhone and soon as i turned mail off in iCloud settings i have not had anymore problems.

I hope this helps and fixes everyones problem as all the above mentioned is a lot of a work around and does not fix the problem, it is something simple and only needs a simple fix and not a whole lot of time wasting techniques that only gets confusing in which other problems arise.

If you are using Mail go to preferences click on accounts and click on the iCloud tab in the left side pane window and then uncheck Enable this account and then at the bottom for Outgoing mail server uncheck that as well and then on the left side pane window and the iCloud tab should be a dull colour if so iCloud mail is deactivated.

Well that could mean that your email settings on your iPhone has the outgoing server as your iCloud address to the lines of mail.icloud.com and you need to check if it is and if it's not and it is your gmail address you will need to check what your iCloud sign in is and if it is your iCloud email address you will need to sign out of iCloud and sign in with your Apple I.D and don't use your iCloud email address as when you first signed up for Apple I.D you used your primary address and that is the one you need to be signed in on.

Everyone has iCloud email address and if its not iCloud it is @me.com. You don't have to set mail up it is already checked in your settings as soon as you sign in to iCloud and it creates a mail account automatically using your iCloud or me address. So when you go to preferences>iCloud the mail button will be checked and as soon as you uncheck it, it stops iCloud or me from working, so even though you don't use mail it could be activated in the settings of mail and when you have tried to send mail it has tried to use your iCloud or me address to try and send your mail which maybe has a wrong password which will stop your mail and give you this error.

You will need to open preferences and look in iCloud as well as internet accounts as it might be something there causing you problems and you will have to do this on your iPhone as well and when you go into settings on your phone and click on mail, contacts, calendars at the top you will have iCloud click on that and when it opens you will see your name and Apple I.D and down a bit further you will need to turn mail off.

This is the only way i know how to fix this problem and if it still keeps on persisting take your phone into a Apple store and ask them to fix it and while you are there tell them about your problem with your Mac.

I'm getting the impression that you think I'm having some problem that I'm really not having. My iPhone and Macs work fine. Sending and receiving e-mail via both works without problem. The "problem" this thread is supposed to be about is that when I close Safari on my Mac, there is *occasionally* a popup that reports, "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [email]", where [email] is my Apple I.D. And as far as I'm able to tell, my Mac *is* connecting to iCloud. The popup is an annoyance, and it lowers my confidence in Apple, but that seems to be it.

And so did mine i had the same problem with my iPhone and iMac and it was to do with the email and all i did was turn off the mail button in the iCloud settings on both my iPhone and iMac and now it is fixed. I was getting the same message you get randomly as well and it is something to do with iCloud mail because it only tends to happen when i have Outlook open on the iMac and the popup only came when i was trying to send mail.

It tells you in the popup This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with EMAIL and don't think i am trying to create a problem that you don't have as i am only trying to tell you in how i fixed the same problem that you are having right now.

Im sorry if this hasn't fixed your problem and like i said go to an Apple store and ask them how to fix your problem i'm sure they will help you out.
