Q: 5s - iOS 7.0.3 Crashes after TouchID Unlock

Hello,

after upgrading my 5s to 7.0.3 yesterday I experience crashes when trying to unlock the Device via TouchID.

The Springboard resprings (Black Screen, Apple Logo) and after a few seconds the Lockscreen appears again.

Deleting and creating new Fingerprints and even a Full Restore didnt do the trick.... still crashing up to 20 Times a Day

The Diagnosis Data says that the Springboard Crashes with an SigSegFault

Come on Apple..... Why?

Redmontino California or what?!

I have owned dozens of mac products. Since I paid for them, I'd like them to work as expected. Nothing wrong with that at all.

And, no. IOS 7.0.4 doesn't fix it.

I get it that you "paid for them" and that you’d "like them to work as expected". Your right, there is nothing wrong with that expectation. I paid for my devices and want them to work as advertised, as well.

As for 7.0.4 not fixing the issue, again, no argument... But 7.1 DOES fix it... so clearly Apple is aware of the issue AND working to resolve it. Patience is a virtue... unfortunately, we have way too many non-virtuous folks around here.

My phone has the most recent OS, 7.0.4, and it obviously isn't fixed.

If there is some version yet-to-be-released, then you can hardly call it fixed if people can't get the fix. That's like saying "The drought is over because it will rain next week."

So apparently your reason for responding is to say "Mine works because I have a version you can't have yet" ?? Okay, got it. You are  very special.

Your suggestion that I merely lack patience is baloney. This CRASH, connected with a highly touted new feature, has gone on for MONTHS. I'm hardly impatient.

Went to Apple store and had my iPhone 5s replaced because of the crashes. On the replacement phone, I restored it as NEW and set up my phone all over again, erased all the iCloud backups and the iTunes backups and I'm still getting the springboard crash when I try to unlock the iPhone 5s with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Apple claims that the iCloud backup was corrupt, but I don't believe it. I haven't tried turning off the Reduce Motion setting.

I was also having a spontaneous reboot issue about 30% of the time I used touch ID on my iPhone 5S. I had turned on the Reduce Motion option some time ago, but turned it off again after reading through this thread. I can report that the reboot issue hasn't happened at all for at least the two days since I switchted it off.  I also agree with others above who reported that switchig Reduce Motion off also improved the general reliability of using the touch ID feature which now works without any significant issues. With the Reduce Motion turned on, using touch ID worked only 50% of the time on first try, notwithstanding the spontaneous reboot issue.

The advice I got was to turn off motion reduction, and I didn't have a crash for several days. But I just had one ten minutes ago.

People, they are sending us in circles.  It will also work properly once in a while if you stand on one foot, too.

Maybe a better solution is for Apple to fix the most notable feature on its most expensive phone??

Setting "Reduce Motion" to off has worked for me. It's been 1 month and I have not had one single reboot. I even almost forgot about this issue.

I haven't noticed any significant hit on battery life, either, which was why I activated "Reduce Motion" in the first place. I have an iPhone 5S with iOS 7.0.4.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I have had the same problem, frequent crashes of my iPhone 5S, with increasing frequency since I bought it in fall 2013. Complete reset and re-installation did not help. What in the end seems to have gotten rid of the problem is disabling  fingerprint recognition altogether. Fabulous! Apple makes us pay dearly for a feature that is plain useless. I recommend class action lawsuits - imagine you want to call 911 and your iPhone reboots instead. It is inacceptable that a company sells a device that doesn't work - be it a coffee pot or a "smart"phone. Unfortunately, the computer/IT industry has made that standard practice, along with selling us icon color and font changes as "innovation". As long as consumers are dumb enough to accept this, nothing will change. Should have bought a Samsung Galaxy - my colleagues love theirs and laugh at me with my poor Apple piece of faulty  junk.

I agree with you, Apple has acted very badly. But a Samsung Galaxy? Oh, no. I bought two of them when they first came out. Terrible phone. After four months, I went back to my iPhone 4S. I gave away one Galaxy, the other is still in the drawer. Now that was a waste of money.

I had the same problem and have resloved it.....I purchased a screen glass protector that is .4mm thick and for some reason, possibly the added thickness, it long longer crashes....you can get it on Amazon for $3 and it is well worth the price to correct this annoying problem..Good luck....

I have iOS 8.1 and have the same issue. Just turned off reduce motion feature, hopefully that will work...
