is downgrading back to Pages '09 possible?

I currently have Pages '09 installed. If I upgrade to Pages version 5.0 and I don't like it, can I downgrade back to Pages '09?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Before upgrading to Pages 5.0 I downloaded the Trial version of iWork '09, mistakenly thinking this was the only way to upgrade. Like most of you I hated 5.0 and want to switch back -- however when I go to Applications I see the iWork '09 folder, and in it is the trial version instead of the version I had originally purchased. And of course this version wants a Key in order to work beyond 30 days.

I never deleted Pages '09 -- where did it go and how can I get it back?? Help!!

Jrezz, please tell me you have a full backup - either a clone (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner are the two best cloning apps) and/or a Time Machine backup!

If you have a backup, you should be able to restore Pages 4.3 from that. I would suggest removing Pages 5 from the Applications folder before you attemp the restoration. It won't move just by dragging (that will just create an alias) - you need to press the command key at the same time. If you put it in a folder, you can then go to Disk Utility and under File->New->Disk Image from Folder you can create a disk image of Pages 5. Then toss the Pages.app (version 5) and you will have effectively disabled Pages 5, but retained it in a usable state should you require it later, or if Apple decides to change the free status for some reason or other. Double clicking on the .dmg file will launch Pages.app (5) and it can be used and then when you close it, it goes back to being a disk image. If you don't do this, or remove it altogether from your HD, it will be the default app for all .pages documents - and once you open a document in Pages 5, it can lose any layout etc. that relied on features now removed from the newer version, and unless exported to Pages 4.3, can no longer be opened in Pages 4.3. So, even though you can avoid opening things in the newer version of Pages by using control+click->"open with" or dragging documents to Pages 4.3, or only opening documents from within Pages 4.3 by using the Open command, it's probably far safer to just disable Pages 5 or remove it.

I don't have a backup. I have never needed to use Time Machine, because I have always been able to just re-install if something went wrong, and I take care to backup documents with flash drives, etc. How ridiculous that as soon as Pages 5.0 comes out, it becomes impossible to get the earlier version -- even though I bought it only months ago?!

Thanks for your help but this is really frustrating.
