I can't turn off iCloud keychain

After my icloud keychain on my MBP running Mavericks failed to sync with my ios devices, I have been trying to turn off my icloud account on my mac as troubleshooting guides have suggested. When I uncheck the keychain icon I get a prompt that comes up asking if I want to keep a copy of the keychain on my mac, delete the keychain, or cancel. No matter which option I choose the icloud keychain is not deleted from keychain access, and the check box automatically re-checks itself. I can not turn off icloud without disabling keychain. Help!!

Additional info: I have tried to repair keychain, it says there is no problem/ I have attempted to delete the keychain but the option to do so is grayed out. I have tried to kill the icloud keychain process, but when I go to uncheck the keychain box the process starts up again and the problem persists.

This method worked perfectly for me.

And FYI to all other folks reading this thread, zackattackkx250f provides a method where deleting the long alpha-numeric folder in ~/Library/Keychain resolves the problem. This is essentially the same as Freek Dijkstra, i.e., Apple Support's method.

i can't find any long alphanumeric folder in the keychains folder. these are the only available files. would deleting them work?

i've given up till i find an answer. meanwhile, i'm using sunrise on my android phone and macbook pro and it works well with synching my personal calendar and events on meetup.com.

Holw cow… I've been having that annoying notification regarding iCloud's Keychain for a while now and had nó idea it was going to take all these steps just to turn it off. Thanks for the help though, I finally was able to get rid of it.

Really, for all the things I like about their products, their Cloud products are so not one of them.

Part III is worked for me. I couldn't get mine to disable/delete account like everyone else. I was able to use my phone to complete a keychain connection then turn it off on the MBA then go back to the phone and it asked to reset. As soon as i hit reset the keychain on the MBA turned off!!! It was fantastic!!! Thanks a lot for your time and the write up...

Wish I could sign out or do anything on iCloud on my iMac, it's "frozen" - you activate/deactivate but it never goes through with it and says iCloud is "not available"

If you are familiar with Terminal, it is much more easy to delete Keychains files.

Open Terminal app, and type

$ rm -rf ~/Library/Keychains

Then, you restart your MAC and all good to go.

I can't turn off iCloud keychain
