After updating to Mavericks, Pages is crashing whenever I save

I have an older version of Pages from iWork '08 I've never updated it because I don't use it that much and don't really need any other features for what I do. Now that I've updated my OS to Mavericks everytime I save Pages either crashes or freezes. I've Never had any issues with Pages on previous OS updates. Is there a way to update pages to a version that will be more compatible with Mavericks without rebuying a program I already own?

This is also happening to me; however, it's with any new Mavericks app (like messaging, calendar, address book) as well as with the new iWork I downloaded. iWork apps stop responding immediately on load; the other apps I have to do something (file/export usually works if that's an option). Lots of little rainbow beach balls, let me tell you.

Opened a support incident with Apple, and, as always, resetting PRAM is the first recommendation.

Second, if it persists, try logging in with another user's account and see if the problem exists there.

I'll reopen the case if those don't fix it. Frustrating!

I always have been running on Pages '08 3.0.3. Installed Mavericks. Pages '08 3.0.3 freezes when I try to save. Force Quit. Reopen document ... shows that changes have indeed been saved ... thankfully. Try to save again ... freezes. Force Quit.

Installed Pages 5.0 which did not update '08 3.0.3 but now is a second Pages app on system. Try to open documents now and get the messages that "documents are too old".

Were there updates to Pages '8 beyond 3.0.3 that I am missing that span the 3.0.3 to 5 that must be installed first? I always check to see if there are updates available to my system. There has never ever ever ever been an update beyond '08 3.0.3 offered. Criminy. Drat.

acaciodb ... I bought Pages 5.0 for 20 bucks. But, it downloaded as a separate app, it did not update Pages '08 3.0.3. So now I have the old app which my documents are tied to and when I open those documents I am told that my documens are now too old and must be opened and saved in Pages '09. So now I am baffled as to what to do. I am no techie, so now I am double-baffled.

iWork Team sent me an email asking me to make a copy of the error log of the app that crashed. Using their instructions, the crash log I find does not show that Pages crashed. Sigh.

I'm stumped, Apple support is stumped (again, my problem is simply that the new iWork apps freeze on startup after upgrading to Mavericks and installing them, which were free for me because I had iWork '09). Also, every other OS X app that was updated (Mail, Messaging, Calendar, Addressbook) will freeze when choosing file/export or file/save. Pre-existing apps like Photoshop and Microsoft Office 2011 do not have any problems.

So it's a severely crippled OS update that I will likely reformat and reinstall.

The update is available for those using iWork '09. Even if it were possible to update iWork '08 to the new versions, you would have many, many problems. The new versions cannot open any iWork '08 or earlier documents or templates. You will get an error saying to open the files in iWork '09 then open them in the new version. I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon or eBay & then update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available.

Is there any update on this? I got iWork 08, and also got this problem, at least with Pages 08 since I updated to Maverick: Everytime I try to save a file i gett the spinning ball of death.

Is there already a solution? I do not want to purchase an upgrade, especially not if it means that I cannot even use my old iWork files anymore. This was not pointed out when installing the Mavericks update, and therefore should be fixed properly. : /

I am also in the same boat. I cannot use Pages after updating to Mavericks. As one has posted here it seems like OSX 10.9 Mavericks is a crippled OS with many bugs in it's own apps. My iMessage stopped working completely and many apps seem to slow down or crash.

I am using a MBP Retina with an SSD drive and it's very frustrating to have so much power with crippled software.

I will just use Google docs from now on until Apple brings back a useful iWorks package.

By the way, I downloaded the Pages 08 3.0.3 update and when trying to insatll it I get this funny message:

"“Pages_303.pkg” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."

"unidentified developer" ? Ha!
