How do I completely remove Bing from Safari

I found some additional details in an article from last month based on reports by Andy Ball who frequents this forum. InstallMac uninstaller antics. It still doesn't tell me where "Application" went, so I need to dig some more.

OK, the "Application" app is embedded in the "GenieoExtra.framework" file, so once that's been moved to the trash it won't run at the next reboot. Just get rid of all five files that this "uninstaller" installs and you should be good as new.

Thanks! While I was quiet I was trying work out the issue as best I could. I am just a casual user but I dumped anything I could find that was Genieo and emptied the trash. I also ran Disk Untility. The 5 file have been deleted!

MadMacs0 was right ! Ive had this stupid virus on my computer for a couple days and I am glad to be rid of it!

I just want to say that I hate people who make malicious software, it is pretty much pure evil.

No it is not safe, does not work and is exactly the opposite of what I said.

As tomas_r. posted earlier, you need to follow his instructions or you will almost certainly have remnants remaining / probably running on your computer.

That MalwareTips site has completely inadequate instructions. It is woefully outdated, and the author blocks any comments I try to make to point that out. I think he cares more about extracting donations from people he can sucker rather than providing accurate instructions.

So, if you followed those directions, you still have components of InstallMac actively running on your system. If you feel that you are not capable of following the instructions in my Adware Removal Guide, you need to get a technologically proficient friend to help you, or you need to hire someone to do it for you.

HI, I tried it many times, and finally I fixed it. First, go to Safari; preferences; general. Go to "homepage" - set to google. then go back up to "extensions" ; under "search engine" click default. MIne some how got set to Genieo, after I installed Firefox.

That is completely inadequate for removing Genieo. You still have components installed and running in the background if that's all you have done.

Please read back through this topic and see the advice given by myself or MadMacs0.

Open Safari --- Safari Setting at the top --- Preference --- General --- Default Search Engine: Google ---- Homepage: https://www.google.com

Beside which, that will only remove part of the problem. Genieo will still be installed after removing the toolbar.

you might be be right with that it's still installed. But I don't have that symptom. 😀

Go to Safari > Preferences, and go to the Extensions tab. You should see Omnibar 1.2. Set the Search Engine to "default". If you don't do this, regardless of what you select, it will use Bing. What was Apple thinking??? 😠
