Mavericks -- Bluetooth Mouse Freezes

I downloaded and installed Mavericks last night. All day today I've been getting temporary freezes. They usually happen when I click from one app to another. They've been happening every few minutes, but it varies.

The freezes last for 10 seconds, every time. I can see background activity proceeds while my mouse refuses to move.

Well, I discovered that the problem goes away if I turn off my Bluetooth Magic Mouse and use a wired mouse. I checked another BT mouse and also the trackpad. They all cause these freezes.

I don't see the "Disconnected" or "Connected" graphics that happen when I turn the mouse on and off.

I have a Logitech BT keyboard; that doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Didn't have this problem until I installed Mavericks.

I'm also experiencing the same issue in Mavericks, which was not present in Mountain Lion. Despite resetting all my Bluetooth peripherals, when I switch between apps, I will experience ~10 seconds of unresponsiveness from my Logitech Dinovo Edge bluetooth keyboard/trackpad combination. The rest of the system still appears to be running at that time.

Well, well. After I substituted a wired mouse for the BT Magic Mouse, things seemed to get better, but then I started getting those darn freezes again, just less frequently.

Then I substituted the short Apple BT keyboard for the Logitech Dinovo Edge keyboard and I haven't seen a freeze in two days.

I even reverted to the BT Magic Mouse and still no freezes!

Paul thanks for the tip. Over on the Logitech discussion boards it appears a fair number of people are having issues with Bluetooth peripherals on Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9). It appears to be related to the Logitech Control Center (LCC) that is installed. The best thing to do right now -- if you can live without extra keyboard/mouse features -- is to go into Applications/Utilities and find the LCC Uninstaller, and run it. Some others have tried to install a new copy of LCC over the existing one, but it seems like the only safe bet is to uninstall the LCC entirely (not just remove it from system preferences).

Hope this helps others. My Mac Mini + Logitech DiNovo Edge now "just work". We'll have to wait to see if and when Logitech rolls out an updated driver and system preference panel. There may be updates over in the forums there: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-and-Pointing-Devices/OSX-Mavericks-Support/td -p/1114193/page/3
