There are XtraFinder (free) and Total Finder. But both require an SIP exception in 10.11 or 10.12 in order to run.

csrutil --without debug

This command allows Finder code injection. Haven't been able to determine just how serious a security risk this is. For the time being, I am not running XtraFinder in 10.11.

I've just upgraded to Mavricks from my best friend Snow Leopard and HATE this new 'feature'. I concur with the other replies- the colours were a vital part of my work flow. I hate you apple.

It's been over 4 years since Apple removed Labels from the OS X (and the OS is not even OS X anymore, it's macOS)

I will venture to guess that Labels will never return to macOS.

Can't believe I'm still seeing replies to this zombie thread! And I just added to it with this post. Looks like the undead can't be killed. Time for it to be locked.

Threads don't generally get locked.

I think some people only use their Macs once every four years. Imagine the shock when they apply the updates and something is different! Shock, horror! 😉

Just taken the advice and supplied feedback on the subject to Apple. I await the response with baited breath!

I want labels back too and I've just let apple know that via the feedback site.
