I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

this is off-topic but does anyone know offhand if there is a way to view email attachments in Mac UI that doesn't require me to do this in Mail or another email client? i have really wanted to do this for awhile - a coverflow type view would be really helpful for me - and this seems as good a place as any to try and ask it again.

TIA and apologies for the off-topic question

Extremely Off-Topic. Start your own thread outining your issues.

No. But I do know of a way to not view colour labels. It's called Mavericks.

To others......Path Finder is not the real answer. Like you,I detest the coloured dots, and this is my sixth (I think) moan about this here. Apple now know how I feel about their silly, even pathetic, idea of tiny, unworkable, ridiculous, nasty, cheap, rubbishy dots. I almost feel sorry for the overpaid person at Apple who came up with the most stupid idea in Apple's history.

And that's the word,Tony, 'FIX'. You said it. Apple has broken something for the sheer fun/luncacy of it. Mavericks is causing me many problems, not just the labels. There's the now non-existent use of double clicking a folder to open a new folder, the startup crashes and the 90 seconds it takes for the computer to even think about sleeping when I d a m n well order it to sleep via the Finder menu bar. Oh,and that's when the menu bar hasn't decided to disappear from the screen.

hi doug,

i am feeling the same way about this and won't upgrade my desktop until this is fixed.

by the way, i /do/ see how the dot tag is an extremely useful functionality and obviously they saw fit to color these so they must recognize the importance of visual (color) recognition in the OS.

that said, a real breakthrough for me would be if they can get the OS to have Mac Contacts recognize groups/categories for something like the sync to Google Contacts which as it stands now is useless since Contacts doesn't recognize groups.

you wouldn't happen to have a couple of url's or search terms i could research that would let a company get their contact database synced would you? i am researching CalDav/CardDav at the moment and i am not finding a good Mac IT forum to ask this question which has long been a very big problem over here.

TIA and regards

Is there anything in Mavericks that you must have?

The reason why I ask is that if you have a Time Machine backup, it's simple to restore to Mountain Lion (the longer you wait, the harder it becomes, as you create new data with Mavericks).

I had a lot of issues when I upgraded my Mac mini to Mountail Lion -- So, I just went back to Lion, as I didn't need any of the new features on my server.

On my MacBook Air, ML worked ok, and I'm also satistied with Mavericks. Yes, there are some issues I'm having, but they're minor, so I'm sticking with Mavericks. If this were not the case, I would just go back to ML.

Hi Hotwheels 22 and Tony T1,

I almost feel we are now comrades! Obviously,Apple will have to sort out the labels/folders farce.Nothing I can do about that. I will have to keep this quick, because I'm about to rip apart the launch services/daemons etc in the Library folder to see if that can sort out some problems.

Can you hear that? Listen. Hear it now? A voice is calling, and it is saying: "Come back to Daddy Mountain Lion,Doug. Come back...you know you want to!".

Meantime, where did I put that hammer.........

Until Apple decides to allow Mavericks to use the old style in conjunction with the new Tags, I've gone back to using the very old system described in the following Apple link:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20788?viewlocale=en_us&locale=en_us

Just find something with the color(s) you wish to use, copy it, and then paste it onto the folder's or file's icon in the Get Info window. Voila! Works like a charm.

It's changes likes this that always makes me wonder if the people at Apple actually "use" macs. I dont think they do. THey MSUT use PCs. why else would the change the quintessential things about macs that made them so useful. I STILL miss windowshading... Minimizing to the dock is annoying at best and doesnt replace minimizing a windo in place. But thats another thread.

Remember the 1984 commercial? it's sad to ahve seen APple become the very thing it sought to break free from.

That said, I understand the tag system though I never saw this as a sought after feature, but why replace the labels with it? why not have them co exist? Or at the very least, Make the tagging system a separate column in the window so we can at least move it in FRONT of a folder/file so it's at least visible when the name of any given file is more the two words. DOnt you test these things out before putting them out? Come on Shon, let go of your conceit and start listening.

Hi Alancito,

Not sure if you work for Apple, but you seem to reply with the "leave feedback here: thing quite often.

If so, you need to march into work tomorrow and go up to the boss-type guy whoever that may be and demand on all of our behalf that Apple reinstate Labels immediately.

You can have your Tag crap if you really want... that's fine, it's called *progress*. But to arbitraritly ditch a vital tool for people who work on thousands of files and need to readily identify them by colour - not a virtually invisible dot - is just plain, well... Windoze-based logic.

So, if you *do* work for Apple, make it so. And put *AC1264* at the end of the Mavericks update so I know my effort has not been in vain. ;-)

If you don't... no need to keep posting the feedback thing - I'm sure Apple knows how big a mistake this has been and is ready to give the pink slips to all involved at any moment now.

Thanks.
