Pages 5.0 and Endnote (Cite While You Write)

Hello fellow Endnote/Pages 5.0 Users!

I've just upgraded to Pages 5.0 yesterday to find that Endnote X7 is not really functioning properly with Pages.

I think its Pages 5.0 problem as concurrently I am running both Pages 4.3 and Pages 5.0 with same Endnote Library. Impirting citations (to footnotes and appropriately to Bibliography) on 4.3 works perfectly, as it should.

However, on Pages 5.0, I can import citation only in-text and not in the footnotes section (chicago style with superscripts). Further, it does not add to the Bibliography section at the last page of the document; as it did for 4.3 and Endnote.

Any takes?

This is very frustrating.

I have to say it is really disappointing that Apple is not really caring about Academic users. Endnote seems to be such a stupid software with Pages compared to Microsoft Word; totally useless if you use footnotes to reference. I read somewhere (I can't remember the blog, sorry), a user pointing out that maybe Pages users should get used to the fact that Apple is not keen to develope any writing processor towards academia. And so, we may change to different softwares... So disappointing!

Pages has not been superscripting the numbers on Pages 5.2.

And Pages still does not give us as many formatting options as in Word, which definetely renders it pointless, when you have Words.

Also, how can I send the citation to Pages 5.2 from EndNote? I always read the paper and click on the icon to send to Microsoft Word. Why is the icon unavailable when I have only the Pages open, intead of Word?

It seems Apple tried to make to insertion of citations and formulas very good-looking, but they did not manage to include a plug-in as efficient and comprehensive as the plug-in for Word. In Word, there is even an extra bar that gives you formatting options and the option to simply click on the insert citation button without assorting to a specific menu as it is on Pages 5.2 (Insert menu). Is there a bar as complete as the Word's on Pages?

It is sad how a brand new fancy version of Pages is still unable to top a 2011 version of Words.

Thanks.

Well, I upgraded Pages and started using Endnote again. At a first glance, Endnote was working and I could finally add footnotes! It took me five minutes to understand that Pages+Endnote becomes massively slow and thus useless once again. I really don't know what to think about, whether Microsoft is a f...ing too big business that has taken over academic writing world or Apple is too stupid to develop a **** word processor that could be used alternatively and equally to Microsoft word... keep being very disappointed!

I just started trying Pages 5.0 with the new update and it works fine with endnote, at least as good and as fast as Pages 4 (which I have been using so far). However, it has better options with endnote so I'm cautiously moving to Pages 5.

Endnote and Pages combination has been always slow (as is Endnote and Word combination). I only started getting nice speed on my book file (400+pages) when I upgraded my Mac memory so that I have 16G. This might be what you need

The reason I am confident the problem is with Pages 5.n goes back to a matter I had getting EndNote 7 to work with Word 2011. The tech support person at EndNote was outstanding. The investigation was meticulous, and we were able to prove that the issue was with Word 2011, not EndNote.

During this same incident, I tested all of the functionality of EndNote 7 in Pages 4. There were no issues. In light of all of the problems with Pages 5, I have not tested EndNote 7 in that app. Why bother.

Finally, I have found EndNote 7 to be very stable. I do not use any of the cloud or sharing features of the app. As always, there are sync issues when your biblio database changes, but these are neither problems in Word nor Pages.

Finally, the best alternative I have found to EndNote 7 is BookEnds. However, BookEnds does not have the cite while you write features of EndNote.

Bottom line, Thomson is a serioius publishing company whose products and services support serious professional users. They publish massive databases in finance and econ, and they publish other databases, including ones used by the news and legal businesses. I have used EndNote since the first verision. The app has been remarkably bug free. So, if you hare having issues between EndNote and Pages, look to pages for the sources of the issues. The most likelly place for problems will be in App Sport libraries. If you ditch the drivers, it will not have any impact on your biblio databases.

I hope this is helpful.
