Hello everyone,
I have the same issue. We use do install or lets save have all drivers for different printers on install disk, and we had a chance to chose to install or do not install the drivers during OS installation.
However now it's like we have to download that large file, which I believe is all hoses drivers, but there is a better way.
Check this link, http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net, download and install the software and it will add many drivers for printers including Artisan 835 🙂. Thanks to Gutenprint for this awesome job.
The Epson Artisan 835 is a "multifunction device", not a "printer" per se.
People have commonly had issues with:
getting the thing to print
getting the thing to scan
getting the thing to recognize media it is supposed to locally support
getting the thing to work via USB
getting the thing to work via WiFi
etc. ad nauseum...
Right now, I'm unsuccessfully trying to connect to one via WiFi, as the locally attached Epson NX510 has turned into a brick for no apparent reason (no longer recognizes brand new Epson brand ink cartridges).
The solution is to never, ever, under any circumstances, purchase an Epson product. If you've never had issues with their products, then you've apparently been very lucky.
This post/thread should be ended, because the driver is now "finally" available through the Mavericks system preferences > Print & Scan. As long as your Artisan 835 is available in your wireless network (or plugged in via cable), it will show up, select add, and the software will download from Apple.
Also, alternately if you just choose print from whatever app your using and select "add printer" from the Printer Pop Up Menu, you can achieve the same thing.
You DO NOT have to download that huge file that installs drivers for lots of printers. Or any other 3rd party driver for every function of the printer to work.
This was never a post about any other function of the printer, ie. scanner drivers, besides printing. The Image Capture (app) works perfectly fine for scanning with the Artisan 835. No "drivers" necessary besides the one downloaded for this printer from Apple.
FYI, the fax ability of this printer works great with the "fax driver" you can download from Epson. Just plug in a live telephone line, open your document, select print, select the FAX EPSON from the pop up menu, enter the recipient, and then FAX.
For what it's worth I have never had ANY of the problems described by "grendelan" in the previous reply. The printer works perfectly and prints excellent photos as well.
If having any other problems with the Artisan 835 you should probably consult Epson.
