SCANNER UPDATES FOR EPSON v500 not available for maverick?

OK - I updated to MAverick and have no scanner. You know, the little white circle with the line through it, indicating that the woftware and drivers will not work on Maverick. So, I went to Epson (I have Epson perfection v500 photo scanner), and they direct me to Apple Software Update at Apple Store. The Apple Store has no update for the epson. And, in an article, says that third party software need be gotten from the maker. so, how do I update. anyone know? Since apple insists that all updates go through apple store, they should be up to date on everything as they try to corner this market. a little upset.

Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem - this link http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportMavericks.jsp

says :

------------------------------------------------------

The latest ICA Scanner Driver for this product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:

  1. Connect your scanner to your Mac via USB or Ethernet* and make sure it is turned on.
  2. * Not all products have an Ethernet port.
  3. Select the User uploaded file menu on your Mac, then select Software Update.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the available updates.

-------------------------------------------------------

But when you do this it says "No updates available"

I suppose Mavericks is just out so hopefully they will have it soon :-)

Its just a bit annoying that Epson are telling you this is how to get the drivers and they are not available.

I also have this problem with Epson scanner V700. The image capture software and Vuscan both do not work when scanning negatives or slides which at present make the scanner obsolete if Epson does not update the software or Apple does not provide a fix.

Like you I have been informed by both companies via their web sites that the other is responsible!

The message

"An OS X 10.9 compatible Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility for this model is not yet available but is coming soon. Please check back for availability."

Has actually been removed from the Epson sites.

Only the old drivers and the ICA Scanner driver (very limited and thus with poor performance) remained.

I think Epson is only interested in selling new stuff (look at the questionnaire they ask you to fill in when you visit their sites).

But the question remains: what to do with my precious EPSON PERFECTION V700 PHOTO scanner?

Buy a cheap WINDOWS machine and tranfer the results to my iMAC?

Weird, but in the given circumstances maybe the only workable fast solution with guaranteed results.

Still no update from Epson, but I updated VueScan to the latest version and it works as normal on my Epson V500. If you don't have VueScan, you can download a demo version for free, and if it works a full version is just $40. VueScan has it's own drivers and will increase the potential of your Epson printers, but it has a cumbersome interface and takes a while to learn. FYI it supports hundreds of scanners.

well I submitted an error report to Epson, as suggested by chrisin this other similar thread

received an email reply from support, but they would only apologize and say that they don't have any info as to when Epson Scan will be updated, and to keep checking back at the website

meanwhile someone else in that same thread says they spoke to someone at Epson who said an update will be ready Friday??

alphabc said in his/her response that Epson will have an update on Friday, I wonder which one. I have just had a response from Epson as follows:

You have recently contacted the Call Centre regarding Epson Scan for your scanner. We do understand your frustration and are working to release the compatible Epson Scan version as soon as possible.

The updated version of Epson Scan to support Mavericks for your scanner is still in development and will be available within the next couple of months. The changes made late in the development of Mavericks were unexpected as earlier in the beta program existing Epson Scan was working.

In the meantime you can use Image Capture to scan after updating the latest Epson drivers released through Apple.

This is totally unacceptable Epson/Apple. I think that from this EPSON does not work on Apple!

ImageAcquire, which I got with my Mustek A3 scanner, still works under Maverick. After opening it I selected my Epson Perfection 4490 and pressed 'acquire'. To my amazement EpsonScan then opened with its presets and settings available, so now I'm scanning like I'm used to. It's free I believe; give it a try:
