Anyone has the same problem as me ?
Anyone has the same problem as me ?
"I say try to uninstall, you have nothing to lose."
I agree. In fact I tried the terminal "uninstall" on all of my machines. They all returned the message that there was no such file to rename. I had nothing to lose. But unfortunately it gained me nothing.
Since a number of people have now reported that uninstalling Broadband Tuner fixes this problem I have a somewhat perverse thought. Maybe those of us still with the problem should first install Broadband Tuner, then wait a few minutes and uninstall it. Who knows? Maybe this might reconfigure something in the bowels of Mavericks that will fix the problem.

Tried it. Want to take a guess as to what happened?
Nothing. Sorry. Still no connection to the icloud server.

No, installing and uninstalling the Broadband Tuner won't fix anything if the Broadband Tuner was not already installed. The Broadband Tuner is not the cause of all the issues related to Back To My Mac.
Vincent
Vincent,
I'm sure you are correct. I regret having even made the off-hand suggestion.
Your response seems to indicate that you believe there is more than one cause for the loss of BTMM functionality after upgrade to Mavericks. But perhaps the underlying cause is basically the same in all cases. Perhaps in some cases this was "caused" by an earlier installation of Broadband Tuner which fouled up some internet connectivity parameter(s). In other cases, like mine, where Broadband Tuner is not a factor, perhaps the same glitch in those "internet parameters" was caused by an error during the installation of Mavericks or in some other way. In other words, indirectly we might learn something from the fact that Broadband Tuner is a causative factor in some cases. How exactly did Broadband tuner cause this problem?
The one thing many of us posting here have in common is that BTMM worked fine prior to upgrade to Mavericks and was broken after the upgrade. I'm inclined to think that there are not numerous causes for this problem but rather a common root cause if we could identify it. Of course this is all speculation and upgrade to Mavericks could have caused loss of BTMM functionality in different ways to different users. This just seems unlikely.
John
John, I know for sure the Broadband Tuner is incompatible with BTTM in Maverick. I did not mean to suggest there is more than one cause of problem for BTTM in Maverick as I simply do not know.
The cause of the Broadband Tuner problem with Maverick is a little technical . The Broadband Tuner it decrease the sysctl variable kern.ipc.maxsockbuf to a value too small for the socket buffer size used of the "utun" virtual interface. The "utun" virtual interface is used by BTMM and some VPNs.
Vincent
Uninstalling Broadband Tuner does not work for me.
Again, the missing serial number of my Mac Pro probably the reason, but why 10.8 and 10.7 work ? (My Mac Pro running 10.9, 10.8, 10.7 on the same Mac Pro, only 10.9 causing the problem
Vincent,
You state:
" The Broadband Tuner it decrease the sysctl variable kern.ipc.maxsockbuf to a value too small for the socket buffer size used of the "utun" virtual interface."
Now this is along the lines of what I was trying to say earlier. If we understand the mechanism by which Broadband Tuner breaks BTMM we might gain insight into a fix for everyone with this problem. If Broadband Tuner sets the aforementioned variable to too small a value for the virtual interface, perhaps the same or similar thing is happening (via a different causative agent) to those of us with this problem in the absence of prior Broadband Tuner installation. Is there some way to query the operating system to see what the "kern.ipc.maxsockbuf" value is and some means of resetting it to its proper value? If this ends up being the root cause of the problem could it not be resolved by changing some variable values back to normal? Or is this technically out of the question? If something like this is the cause for BTMM failure I would think this is something Apple could easily fix.
Thank for your continuing interest and valuable input into this problem.

I am having the same problems with BTMM on Mavericks. My router has no firewall or blocked ports, firewall on both macs are off, and none of the settings have changed for the macs since I had BTMM working before mav ricks. I used to be able to access BTMM from my job. None of the solutions in this thread seem to work. I can use BTMM from the same network. Just not from outside it.
would love a solution
Thank you! Worked for me too!
James A. Weston FYI it appears the OS X 10.9.2 update fixed the BTMM connection problems I had been having. The problem seems to have primarily centered around an inability to wake a sleeping Mac over WAN. I could leave the Mac on and not sleeping all the time but I didn't consider that an acceptable solution.
As helpful as yours and everyone else's suggestions have been they resulted in only mixed success for me. BTMM is now as reliable as it had been with Mountain Lion. Thanks for your help!
I had the same issue after installing Mavericks on my MacPro. I ran the uninstaller for Broadband Tuner and the issue resolved. The 10.9.2 update did not fix the issue.
Apple tier 2 supervisor has NO CLUE what I was talking about.
So, I installed Apple Broadband Tuner again. Immediately used the uninstalled as described previosuly. Restarted. Turn back to Mac off. Waited 15 seconds. Started again. CONNECTED! No more error messages.
Time to go home and fidn out if it really works..
I hope i can get rid of google cloud print now!!
TY everyone!!!
Excellent info. Thanks.
Wow! I had never even heard of this Broadcast Tuner thing. Your solution completely fixed my Back to My Mac settings on a mac connected to a Linksys E4200 router.
Hey all - I have been pulling my hair out for a while on this. Like many I went though the broadband tuner hoops, multiple attempts of removing and recreating keys under user accounts and lately i've been watching the console and watching errors as I selected and de-selected back to my mac.
What I tried this afternoon is referenced in this support article: VPN not working after upgrading to Mavericks
I used those terminal lines to set maxsockbuf to 1000000 and my iMac share magically appeared on my remote macbook. First time i'd seen it in months - it did appear for a short time after installing and then uninstalling broadband tuner.
I think this VPN issue makes sense - that's one of the things broadband tuner supposedly does. So far so good, i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
