Powerbutton makes my Macbook Air go straight to sleep

I have the same problem!!! I really disapointed with sleep mode. I just want to turn off display without sleep or standby. please help me... all of my conections drop when MBA goes to sleep...

Finally I solved this problem.

In https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/pmset.1.html you can find complete intorduction to pmset.

I changed values in this file according to pmset manual. /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

It works for me. Backup your file before change it.

Can you elaborate on which setting you changed in this file or the command parameters you used with pmset?

Can't find anything regarding the power button in there.

You can change autopoweroff to 0, it affects on your internet connection and cause working it like a charm! I alsIo change sleep display to 5 minutes and sleep to 0. It prevent MBA's display.

i popped off the power button. now i don't accidentally GLANCE off the corner of the stupid thing when going to the delete key. granted, to power on/off i have to press the little nub in the middle, but that is NO PROBLEM AT ALL when compared to the hassle of disconnected VPNs and having to re-establish terminal sessions etc.! c'mon apple, don't make me get my tattoo removed!

The fix? Throw bricks at Apple until they FIX THIS FAULTY DESIGN! 😠

Such that the power button now comes with a third option, and is in the upper right corner out of the way of inadvertent touching....

there should be no normal circumstances when you are touching the power button unless it is on purpose.

suggest simply not touching the power button.

"out of the way" is NOT what i would call a button right above the DELETE key and right next to the volume up key!

Exactly.. right above the Delete key and the shape is similar with the other keys. Not what I'd call "out of the way."

It's pretty obvious lately that Apple has taken "Less is more" to the limit to where things get silly.... This is totally unacceptable from a company that claims to be the best in usability.

Oh my god this has been furiating for me. I've hit the power button on accident an amount of times that I'm not proud of. It's way to close to the delete key on my macbook air. For a while I thought it was just my computer making an error, but now I read that they purposely made it this way with the Maverick update?!?!? I really needed to vent on here.

Any of you saying to just not hit the power button are nuts. We're obviously not trying to hit the power button.

It was perfectly fine before. Why'd they need to change it? When the option window came up immediately upon pressing the power button you could still chose to sleep. Which takes an extra half second. This way I'm actively using my laptop when I'm suddently forced to wake my laptop back up and log in again. ***? This has also caused my laptop to freeze numerous times. I guess throwing my laptop into sleep mode randomly while I have a bunch of windows/videos playing isn't optimal. Who would've thought?

Jesus apple just make it an option. Would that have been so hard? Don't try to force dumb things on me when I was perfectly happy before.
