The following command seems to work for me. When I hit the power button by accident the first time, it won't do anything!

sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0

You can type pmset -g to see your current config.

I like that this has been implemented. I find it quite handy. But I'm not everyone.

This hasn't been much of a problem for me since I have a Late 2007 MBP, but I've noticed it too. I recently updated Mavericks and it seems to be gone. I haven't entered any Terminal commands or anything, so I guess Apple has fixed it.

EDIT: Apple has changed the amount of time needed to put the laptop to sleep. It is no longer a single tap on the power button, it's a longer hold. If it's shorter than what is needed for the dialogue box, the laptop will be put to sleep.

This just showed up - perhaps 10.9.2 reinstated the feature.
