After installing Mavericks, my WD My Book Studio II connected by firewire, does not contain any files. It is a raid 0, after using the operating system while I wonder if I could use time machine to which I said no.
In this hard drive I keep my most precious files.
Forgive the level of English, I'm Spanish and I write through a translator.

I removed WD folders from Library/Application Support and all files with WD in their names from System/Library/Extensions. Finally the WD Drive Manager does not show up in the menu when I connect the formatted MyBook Studio Ed II 6TB.
BTW my Time Machine is on a 2TB single hard disk WD My Book drive and it's working fine under Mavericks with and without the WD software. Somebody in the WD forum said that his WD RED disk has not been affected but his WD GREEN disk on the same dock has been formatted to "MyBook". I wonder if this could be a Red/Green problem as well as a RAID problem.

I just stumbled on this thread accidentally, while looking for the HD sleep issue with Mavericks. To be honest I'm shocked and relieved at the same time. I'm using

Besides the sleep issue I had no other problems so far but after reading this I just disconnected the MyBook and I'll leave it until we have a solution for this. I have all my media and fotos on it. What a desaster if all that would be gone.
Sorry to hear the problem happened with no WD manager software installed (I stand corrected). Maybe now it is time for people to look into off site backups services like BackBlaze or Carbonite. I use BackBlaze and for $50/year I have over 4TB backed up on Backblaze (includes my 2 TB WD MyBook Raid). For BackBlaze, smaller online restores are free. If you want a large restore shipped to you it will cost $189 for a 3TB restore on a USB hard drive. (Note, I don't work for BlackBlaze and I don't receive any compensation from them.)

What's a WD GREEN disk and a WD RED disk? And how would someone tell which one they have? I have a friend who uses a single WD Pocket Drive but says it's been formatted with Disk Utility. So far it seems it's working just fine.
AND for everyone..... Are you people using Firewire_400 or Firewire_800 or USB_2 or USB_3 HDs?

Just some very minor mechanical differences, the RED is more sturdy for perpetual and high use. It wouldn't be causative in this case. Outside of some minor mechanical characteristics, I cannot fathom a Green being a failure point over a Red

Green - Eco friendly drives with design to be energy efficient and quiet. Designed to take advantage of non-use to lower power requirements. Base model consumer grade.
Blue - standard conventional HD
Red - Most common use is for NAS - designed to be compatible with NAS enclosures, does not utilize any ECO friendly power reduction, as the drive was designed to run 24/7 in a network environment.
Black - This is the most reliable, highest performing drive in the series and used in server farms etc.

OK, I took a peek inside my ruined 6TB RAID drive and the unaffected 2TB single disk drive, they are all WD GREEN disks. So it looks like that's not an issue.

I've had other problems with Mavericks, but not this one as I use a several years old WD MyBook as a FireWire-attached clone of my hard drive.
From what I'm gathering here, the problems seem to be related to using WD managment software (RAID or not) or RAID set up by Disk Utility. Has anyone experienced this problem with a basic, plug in a single disk / no partitions / no software other than the original erasing and formatting done by Disk Utilities when the drive was bought?

Been a dozen or so reports of same, yes. In which case enclosure/ bridge SATA/ firmware could be a causative factor.
*Ive tried to duplicate this simplex setup error with a pile of drives, but have yet to.
I too have zero connection with my Mybook Thunderbolt 4tb external drive which i have all my family home videos on and my Mybook Studio 2tb backup drive.
Why is everyone going off on silly tangents: It's not the wd software as that was updated and worked with Mt Lion. Red Green or Black REDICULOUS.
If you control click on the drive now listed as mybook and click on get imformation you will see the used area is still as it should bethus, the files are still their.
SO; Apples Maverick is the problem.
I still have my photos on my iphone and will not Sink it hope icloud connection doesn't bugger that up too.
Apple sold me the mybook drives , they recommend them and are under consumer law are liable.

I am very upset with APPLE whom I addopted after becoming super frustrated with Microsoft but now feel that with the departure of SJ they are totally $ driven and just pushing product out to maintain market share.

This is the Mavericks forum,.... that it "worked fine on mountain Lion" doesnt imply or indicate its going to work perfect on a future OS,....... i.e. current Mavericks.
There is sufficient implications that there are multipliers of causation on data corruption since its occurring on RAID, some reports of conventional non-RAID, and even singular bare formatted drives.
A unifying factor however in "most" is the use of WD MyBooks
WD just indicated on its site that it has a team looking hard into the issue.
Your data is still there yes, but if corrupted others are reporting total loss of metadata.
run disk warrior for data recovery unless you feel uncomfortable doing so:
Is there a particular action that causes it? When it's plugged into the port? When it's powered up? Mounted? Or any and all of the above. I'm wondering if my lack of trouble (if not the pure luck of having the right combination of firmware/SATA etc.) is because my drive is always plugged in and powered up, and only mounted via Disk Utilities.

Western Digital is urgently investigating these reports and the possible connection to the WD Drive Manager, WD Raid Manager and WD SmartWare software applications.
Until the issue is understood and the cause identified, WD strongly urges our customers to uninstall these software applications on their systems before updating to OS X Mavericks (10.9), or delay upgrading. If you have already upgraded to Mavericks, WD recommends that you remove these applications and restart your computer. WD has removed these software applications from our web site solely as a precaution as we investigate this issue.

It's great that we're finally getting an official response and maybe offers some hope that we can recover our data - if only we'd known about this issue sooner!!
I'm using just USB to access my myBook6Tb (no WD apps) - so it definitely is Mavericks. I also bought it on apples recommendation.
