Canoscan 8800F (USB)

I am unable to use my Canoscan 8800F under Mavericks. It worked nicely under ML. Any suggestion? Thx.

No promises, but this is worth trying: I'm guessing that you may have downloaded the wrong version of these files, so try this: Go back to Canon's website (link is above) and download & install the software again. When you do, before you click "Download" make sure the operating system is correct. Specifically, if your Mac has Mavericks (10.9), make sure that's what is selected so you download the right version of this stuff.

Well, I was confused because it depends who you ask😐. Someone at Canon told me ICA is an Apple product (which is true) so Apple has to fix it; but then an Apple "genius" told me Canon has to send Apple a new ICA driver for Apple to distribute. I think that's the right answer, and then someone else at Canon said that was right.

The TWAIN driver (the update that is on Canon's website and is working) is what the rest of the industry (Windows, Linux, Unix, ...) uses as the standard for scanner drivers. ICA ("Image Capture Architecture") is Apple's OS X "standard" for scanners, and that's what isn't working for this scanner. (I have another Canon all-in-one scanner that does work.) So I think what is supposed to happen here is that Canon needs to solve the problem and send Apple an updated ICA driver for their product, and Apple will distribute it as part of an OS X update. That update may or may not also show up as a download on Canon's website.

No news yet. FWIW: Many other scanners (Canon, Epson and more) don't work in 10.9 (Mavericks). Apple seems to have broken their Image Capture Architecture (ICA), including their Image Capture app and the generic device drivers that come with Mac OS. I'm hoping (but make no promises) that this will get fixed soon in a software update.

Apple has not broken ICA. It is up to the vendors to supply Apple with an ICA driver. So if the vendors drop support for a particular scanner then there is not much that Apple can do about that.
