USB Flash Drive Not Mounting After Mavericks Update

Has anyone else encountered a problem with their USB thumb drive not mounting after Mavericks update? I've got a 16GB Silicon Power USB 3.0 Flash Drive that mounted fine in Mountain Lion prior to my Mavericks upgrade on Tuesday. However, after the update, it will not mount. Now my MBP does not have USB 3.0 but this thumb drive was backwards compatible with 2.0.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how to address this problem. A cursory Google search for this problem turned up no results as of early morning on Thursday, 10/24.

Cheers,

A quick refresh, I have 6 drives plus 3 usb sticks all were failing to register on my 2010 iMac 27" running mavericks. All was fine before upgrading then slowly and intermittently they started to fail to register, finally when I updated to Mavericks OSX 10.9.1 nothing but SD card and randomly one USB Stick could be found when plugged in...

It is important to add that I had a variaty of extenal drives WD, Seagate, integral, Toshiba and formated in different ways NTFS, FAT32 & Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

I found a solution there is more good news than bad for sure, however it does come in 2 parts..... Good news the actions on this page helped disk utility locate my external drives connected to my Mac, HOWEVER they would not mount http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US then for good measure follow that up with the the instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 part 2 was adding a little bit of software the bad news is that costs $20 (£15) called paragons this is available from http://www.paragon-software.com/partners/index.html not to be confused with the limited version for free you receive when you purchase a Seagate drive you need the full version and luckily they offer you a 10 day trial so if you have less sucsees than me no need to purchase it I am happy and all is right with my world on my lovely iMac and to be honest it was not that hard and takes easily less than 30 minutes with no complicated instructionsto follow...

same here. i'm on a 21" imac running mavericks and i can't get it to read a thumb drive to save my life. the thumb drive is fine, i can plug it into my mac mini next to it and it reads with no issue. i've tried multiple thumb drives also. the weird thing is that it will read external usb drives (like my time machine), but will not read thumb drives at all. it shows up in system profiler, but not in disk utilities or terminal. i've tried every 'fix' that i can find on the internet and NOTHING has worked. even called apple support and they are clueless. they told me to reinstall my os....but i really don't have the time to do that. need a fix for this.

Try a piece of software called paragon the full version is about $20 but u have a 10 trial to see if it works and try it out it cured all my issues plus the added benefit was I could read and write to any windows formatted drives go to the paragons

Site it takes only a few minutes to download and install honestly my best install this year so but if I am honest maybe a close second to windows 7 ultimate... I find mavericks crash to many times for my liking snow leopard never crashed on me since the osx has got worse...

The only other thing I can suggest is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

This link paragon solved issues where I could not view jounaled formatted drives to the only USB drive that doesn't work for me now is a ntfs formatted one by hp no Idea why not this also helped but caused a few other issues so read carefully before trying it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 honestly good luck I know how frustrating it can be that is why I shared what I learnt in the hope I could assist sorry that paragon didn't work but you can delete it and you have lost nothing as it was a free trial....
